Dear Journey School Families and Partners,
As we launch the New Year, we wanted take a moment to express our thankfulness for your efforts in making Journey the warm, diverse, and creative school that it is. As you well know, Waldorf Education challenges students, staff, and parents to learn and strive in every way. Your dedicated partnership and support are vital to our efforts. It really does take a village. So, on behalf of the entire staff, and at the beginning of this bright new year, we thank you for your involvement and generosity.
Onwards and Upwards,

Safe and Creative Learning Environment
Our Top Priority
Journey's top priority, or Big Rock #1, is to provide a safe and creative learning environment. While we've come a long way, much work remains.
That's why we've re-committed in the New Year to accomplishing two important tasks which go hand-in-hand: (1) Review, strengthen, and publish all JS safety protocols; and,
(2) Enhance the campus to facilitate even more creative, healthy play. We've listed some of the results achieved recently in pursuit of Big Rock #1:
- Substantially increased staff supervision
- Revising and publishing all safety protocols
- Scheduled a new series of emergency preparedness drills and trainings
- Engaging district and law enforcement partners in proactive conversations
- Built and equipped a new health office
- Enhanced the Kindergarten outdoor classroom
- Re-organized the lunch area to promote calmness and student responsibility
- Set-up volleyball courts for older students
- Created a wooden 'gaga-ball' court so students can play a favorite game
- Building a sand long-jump and horseshoes pit with help from students
- The woodworking class made copper Eurythmy rods and wooden boxes
- Set-up a slackline to teach balance and trust

We Are Better Together Meaningful Parent Involvement
Journey School's intent is to meaningfully engage parent's in this New Year.
Over 60 parents, including more than 20 fathers, gathered last week to learn more about the brain
development of young children and how Journey School's Waldorf Educational model uniquely meets their needs. Many thanks to the Kindergarten Teachers, Patti Connolly, and all participating parents for making this wonderful event such a hit. In case you were not able to attend, please click here to read an important article that was disseminated. Check for parent education opportunities on the Adult Learning Workshops page for upcoming workshops for parents with children in ALL grades. We want to see 100 people at the next parent education class as these learning opportunities are too important for your family, and our community, to miss. We are better together! We'll be bringing you even more opportunities to get involved in the near future. We are trying to make it simple for parents to have meaningful interactions with their child's education -- in ways that match parent skills and talents so that service can be easy and joyful. |

Parents please check in office to sign your children out. A member of the office staff will get your children from the classroom.
