My amazing mother, Ruth Brown, age 86, has unexpectedly departed this world and has raced on to her next big adventure. She died peacefully in her sleep early Tuesday morning, April 7th.
All who knew Ruth can attest to her vitality and stellar health. It is a shock that she would leave us so suddenly. Yet, who among us wouldn't want to leave this world at the top of their game, after living a full, rich life?
Ruth's generosity was abundant. She cherished her volunteer work with the New Hanover library and with WHQR Public Radio. From its inception sixteen years ago, Ruth was Stone Garden's biggest fan.
She was proud of the business and told all her friends and acquaintances to shop with us. She also helped take care of the grounds and loved to instruct my staff to empty and clean the birdbaths on a regular basis.
I could not have asked for a more supportive or nurturing mother. She instilled in me a persistent work ethic and an ability to be strong during rough times.
You are welcome to attend Ruth's Celebration of Life on Sunday, April 26th at 2 pm. Appropriately, the memorial and reception will be held at the Northeast branch of the public library (that Ruth helped both to create and sustain) at 1241 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC, 28411.
Ruth's obituary was posted in today's Star News. In lieu of flowers, she would have wanted donations to go to the New Hanover Friends of the Library, 201 Chestnut Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
Thanks for listening to me celebrate a great lady. I will miss her dearly.
