I would like to introduce myself as the newest member of The Parenting Network team. With over 25 years of experience working with children and families, I am honored and privileged to join The Parenting Network as the Associate Director. Having grown up in Wauwatosa, it is with fond memories that I am returning to the area after working on "the other side" of Lake Michigan in Holland Michigan for the past fifteen years. It feels as if I had never left. I appreciate The Parenting Network Executive Director, Jan Buchler, Board of Directors, staff, and community partners who welcomed me back with open arms and hearts. It is good to be home!

Books for Laughing Together:
Young children find humor in ridiculous situations, silly rhymes, and word plays. They use their thinking skills and draw on their knowledge and experiences to get the joke. Children need to understand why a situation is absurd before they can find it funny! Sharing a joke is a great way to strengthen family ties. These books and activities will have you and your child laughing together in no time. - See more at: NAEYC For Families

MyPlate Kids' Place:
Every kid can have a MyPlate

Have an Active Summer
Physical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. In combination with healthy eating, it can help prevent a range of chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and stroke, which are the three leading causes of death. Physical activity helps control weight, builds lean muscle, reduces fat, promotes strong bone, muscle and joint development, and decreases the risk of obesity. Children need 60 minutes of play with moderate to vigorous activity every day to grow up to a healthy weight.

The Importance of Promoting Social and Emotional Competence in Children:
A child or youth's ability to interact positively with others, self-regulate their behavior and effectively communicate their feelings has a positive impact on their relationships with their family, other adults, and peers. Challenging behaviors or delayed development create extra stress for families, so early identification and assistance for both parents and children can head off negative results and keep development on track.
