Broader Scope and Outreach Sought for 2014 Search

Following on its decision to hire a new superintendent in the spring of 2014, the Hartford Board of Education this month will vote on revisions to its Leadership Succession Policy.  These would broaden the search process beyond internal to regional and national candidates and allow expansion of both the search committee's membership and the Board's community outreach efforts once final candidates are selected.

attendance awareness month Eighty percent of success is just showing up, Woody Allen famously said.  However you calculate that particular percentage, it is clear from data released this week by the Hartford Public Schools that low levels of academic achievement are linked to chronic absence from school.  That's not surprising, but the numbers are truly distressing.  A major campaign has been organized to confront this issue - and it is crucial.
