Leaders of theSheff movement coalition, faith-based and other communities, the Hartford Board of Education, and higher education researchers gathered with school reform advocates this past weekend to examine how a new regional magnet school could bring together English- and Spanish-speaking students for dual language learning.  It's not only an exciting concept, it's a pivotal time to advance it.

Compared to past years, the Board of Education's annual public hearing on the budget Tuesday evening brought a barely audible murmur: Representatives from just one school among nearly 50 in the District took the microphone - and the meeting ended before some people could get there!  Does this mean the budget is about as good as it gets in this leanest of years . . . or did we just get a signal about sparse stakeholder engagement?
