Dr. Noguera Urges a Back to Basics Approach to School Reform

When the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving invited NYU Professor Pedro Noguera to speak to more than 350 people yesterday, the subject of the conversation was, "Who is Responsible for Children's Success?"  Given Noguera's research focus on students' readiness to learn, we expected his talk would challenge our thinking on which ingredients are most critical to student success.  We were not disappointed.

After-School Enrichment Backed 
State Priority District Grant Reaches
13 Agencies

Clark With awards ranging up to $24,000, 13 Hartford youth development agencies now are providing after-school enrichment to some 1,300 children at 15 schools.  Who is doing this work - and why?

Grant to Enable Rigorous Strategic Planning

Prudential has awarded Achieve Hartford! a $150,000 grant in support of the independent, nonprofit organization's efforts to sustain reform in the Hartford Public Schools.
