An Update on Guatemala

Learn more about the indigenous people of Guatemala and the issues they are facing today when recent Oberlin College graduate, Viviana Gentry, shares some of her experiences as a human rights accompanier in Northwest Guatemala. Gentry served as an international presence and measure of security in the departments of Huehuetenango and San Marcos, from October 2011 to May 2012. Her service offered many first-hand opportunities to gain insight into the complex issues and struggles evident throughout all layers of Guatemala's present day culture. Sponsored by the Santa Elena Project of Accompaniment (SEPA).

Interfaith Peace Builders on Israel and Palestine
Saturday, 9/8, 1-2 pm, Peace Community Church (44 E Lorain)
Interfaith Peace Builders is a national organization that sends delegations to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories to learn about the situation on both sides and to meet Israeli and Palestinian peacemakers who seek resolution of the conflict. Two of Interfaith Peace Builders' delegation leaders, Philip Farah and Michael Daly, will give presentations and open the floor for conversation. Middle Eastern snacks will be provided. ExCo: Religious Pluralism and Interfaith Engagement

This course explores interfaith leadership--the skills and knowledges that are necessary to build bridges across differences of religions and philosophies through five pathways: friendship and hospitality, dialogue and education, service and activism, ritual and celebration, and the arts and music. We also explore the meaning of religious pluralism through the work of some of its proponents and critics. This is a community-based learning course that includes personal sharing and community projects. Students will deepen in their understanding of the interfaith movement and be supported to continue their engagement beyond the course.

Neuroscience, physics, biology, epigenetics--what are their connections to spirituality? Explore, embody, and celebrate the integration of mind, body, and spirit in sacred dance. Grow in wholeness and live fully alive. This course will include information sharing and discussion, meditation, singing, and dancing to the sacred phrases of major world spiritual traditions.
