 Lee Hicks Memorial Set
Family, friends, and associates will gather on April 2 at 12:30 p.m. at Calvary Church, East Liberty, for a memorial service in Lee's honor. He died February 13 at the age of 82. The following is an edited excerpt from the diocesan tribute, "In Appreciation: Lee Hicks, Who 'Wanted to Serve'." When the Pittsburgh diocese began its task of recovering from a painful split in 2008, Lee Hicks knew that God had given him gifts that were needed. "My ecumenical experience, working with different theological positions, will be helpful in rebuilding the diocese," he wrote in agreeing to serve on the Standing Committee. "I want to serve my Lord and the Church." Lee's vision of church, his work, and his life, was ecumenical. He was an ordained Baptist minister and the founding executive director of Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania, who eventually found his home in the Episcopal Church, particular at Calvary, East Liberty. "He was able to get people of different faiths to join together at the same table and help them understand what they should be doing, but allowing them to be in the driver's seat," recalled his wife, Barbara. Lee was a quiet man who loved to sail, yet once referred to himself as a "pipe-smoking, martini-drinking minister" whose personality endeared him to many. And in that engagement with others, despite any divide, he found success and his service to his Lord. Read the full tribute at www.episcopalpgh.org/in-appreciation-lee-hicks-who-wanted-to-serve/ |

 Episcopal Health Ministries Update
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As the Episcopal Health Ministries (EHM) contact in the diocese, I count it both a joy and a privilege to journey with you all and am hopeful that our time together will be healthy and fruitful.
When I met with Bishop McConnell, several possible initiatives for a Health Ministry were discussed, as well as specific resources/recommendations for implementation within the parishes.
As noted in the February Grace Happens Health Ministry announcement, healing is an aspect of God's love that is of deepening interest and is our present focus. We'll be exploring ways to bring Jesus' healing ministry more fully into the church, rooted in His word and covered in prayer, a Biblical call and a vocational (and personal) passion.
I invite your prayers as we grow forward together and welcome your comments as well. Feel free to contact me at waskop@windstream.net
...till next time, I hope to see you in the Garden.
In His Love, Paula Wasko

ECW Spring 2016 Grant Applications Available
The Diocese of Pittsburgh's Episcopal Church Women (ECW) will be making outreach grants in the spring.
The ECW particularly seeks to support "hands-on ministries" that help children, adults and families in need of assistance with food, nutrition, health care, housing, education and counseling. |
The ECW established the Memorial Membership Fund to aid students with educational grants. The fund was begun in 1927 to be used for two missionary training scholarships. In the 88 years of its existence, the scope of the fund has widened to include nursing, theology and other humanitarian fields of study. |
Tidbits from the Archives
On Good Friday, March 31, 1866, Bishop Kerfoot celebrated the morning service at Christ Church, Allegheny City (now Christ Church, North Hills) and confirmed eight. That evening he preached and confirmed nine at Calvary Church, East Liberty.
The diocesan archives has provided small historical tidbits from the appropriate month for each Grace Happens. Watch to see if your parish shows up in one of them!
