Farmers Market
St. David's

A ministry of St. David's Episcopal Church in Venetia, the Peters Township Farmers Market provides an opportunity for residents of the South Hills to buy local, fresh products for their families directly from the farmers and artisans that produce them.

Their mission is "to encourage relationships between producer and consumer and to limit the distance food and goods travel from farm to table. The market is designed to provide a place for neighbors to meet and relate, while they shop for excellent, locally grown food."

If you share a passion for sustainable farming and fresh, local goods, you are encouraged to visit the 23 vendors, ranging from artisan specialty foods to locally made gifts and personal care products, on Wednesdays from 3-7 p.m. through September.

St. David's Episcopal Church is located at 905 E. McMurray Road, Venetia, PA 15367

United Thank Offering Webinar

Beginning on Monday, June 9, the United Thank Offering board will offer monthly webinars to address areas of interest for UTO coordinators to help strengthen and support the ministry of UTO in parishes and dioceses. The hope is that these webinars will bring coordinators, volunteers and staff together on a regular basis to share ideas, ask for help and develop new ways of strengthening UTO at all levels.

The June webinar will feature ways to increase the visibility of UTO in the diocese and within the parish. Participants will be invited to share stories or ideas with one another as well as ask questions of the host, Sandra Squires, Province VI representative.

The following webinars, on July 16 and 23, will feature two bishops that are very supportive of UTO, Stacy Sauls and Leo Frade. They will discuss how they created structures of support for UTO and what UTO means to them.

The August webinars will be done by province, with Province III scheduled for August 13 at 7 p.m.

A flyer with details about how you can attend this GoToMeeting webinar is available by clicking here.

The Children's Ministry Team for the diocese is working hard to bring Godly Play to all parishes who want to start or expand their program.

We are looking for people who may be willing to cut out small items from patterns and materials which we will provide. You can do this in your own time, in the comfort of your own garage or workshop.

Can you help? Please contact Joyce Donadee at 412 635 2312 or jdjdonadee@gmail.com

The Social Justice and Outreach Committee Calls on Churches and Individuals of our Diocese to:

Support Summer Nutrition

for Children in Your Community

At the end of the school year, many children who formerly participated in the National School Lunch Program abruptly lose access to their daily meals.

Millions of school age children suffer a major gap in their meal coverage during the summer, putting them at risk for underdeveloped social skills, weak academic achievement, and long-term health problems.

There are 72,000 children in Allegheny County eligible to get a free or reduced price lunch during the summer because of low family income, but in the past only 10,000 have participated.

Contact the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank at 412 460-3663 or the Food Bank headquarters for your county if you could help provide some regular meals for one of the programs in your community.

Support SNAP

In the twelve counties served by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Food Security Partnership, 370,000 residents face hunger. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a nutrition program open to those meeting income and other eligibility criteria and helps numerous families, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.

Yet there are 113,000 eligible individuals in Allegheny County who are not using SNAP, and many are missing meals or eating too little.

If you meet individuals who are eligible or know of organizations that do, please put them in touch with SNAP.  For more information contact Megan Davis at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (412 460-3663).  See www.pittsburghfoodbank.org/foodpartnership.
