Episcopal Workday at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
Join fellow Episcopalians from across the Diocese at our next volunteer workday at the Repack Center of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. We'll be working in the Repack Center at GPCFB's main Duquesne warehouse facility (1 North Linden St, Duquesne, PA 15110) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 9. We'll assist the GPCFB repack team by inspecting, sorting, and repacking donated or purchased groceries. The exact project will depend on their inventory at the time. In the past we've had most enjoyable times repacking food ranging from cereals to oranges. GPCFB serves as a central repository for over 350 local food pantries and distribution centers across 11 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania. Because it works with such large volumes in its certified green facility, GPCFB's operations are efficient, economical and impressive.
If you would like to get in the Thanksgiving spirit by volunteering for this rewarding activity sponsored by the diocesan Social Justice and Outreach Committee, contact Jerry Stephenson (JJmestephenson@verizon.net or 412-367-1032) by November 4 to reserve your slot. Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older and be able to stand for two or more consecutive hours. We expect the 40 available slots to be reserved quickly.

Alyse Viggiano, a recent college graduate and a member of St. Paul's in Mt. Lebanon, is spending a year in Omaha, Nebraska with the Episcopal Service Corps (ESC).
She'll spend time serving in a local Episcopal parish, volunteering in the community at large, and furthering her spiritual development/theological education at the Resurrection House of the ESC.
"I took a step back and asked myself the question, "If I were to die tomorrow, what would I regret not doing?" I earned a degree in marketing with minors in Philosophy and Entrepreneurship (check), I ran a coffee shop (check), I baked a ton of cookies, muffins, scones (check), I had been doing something I was passionate about. The answer that felt right was to explore that call of priesthood. But how to do it? Through the Episcopal Service Corps. I found the program in Omaha called the Resurrection house coordinated by Jason Emerson. It is a 9 month program where 50% of my time will be in an Episcopal church, 25% will be at a non-profit, and the other 25% will be spent on spiritual development. Starting August 31st until May 19th, I will be in Omaha, Nebraska exploring this option.
