Honor the Prices and Save Lives With a Donation to Episcopal Relief & Development's NetsforLife�
In honor of the ministry of Bishop Ken and Mariann Price, the Diocese of Southern Ohio launched a campaign to save lives: a gift of at least $18,000 to Episcopal Relief & Development's NetsforLife� Inspiration Fund. The goal is to raise at least $18,000 - one thousand for each year of the Prices' ministry in Southern Ohio - which will be matched by the Procter Fund.

 Noted Iconographer Offers Icon Retreat in Millvale
The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities welcome Peter Pearson, iconographer, who will direct an Icon Retreat from 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., Monday, March 11 through Friday, March 15 at Mount Alvernia, 146 Hawthorne Road in Millvale, Pa. Beginners and artists at all skill levels are welcome to attend the retreat which will focus on the technical skills involved in icon painting, as well as the spirituality of creating an icon. Fee is $250, which includes all materials, including acrylic paints.
 Pearson has been a student of iconography for 40 years. He has created hundreds of icons for private collectors, churches and institutions around the world. He offers courses, workshops and retreats to people of all ages throughout the U.S. In addition to iconography, Pearson studied architectural drafting and color at the International Institute of Design in Washington, D.C. He also studied theology, with a specialization in liturgical studies at St. John's School of Theology in Boston; Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pa., where he earned a master of divinity degree. Pearson serves as rector at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Scranton, Pa. Annual statements of 2012 account activity for parishes and organizations with pooled funds or endowment funds in the diocesan account known as "Pool I" have been mailed and emailed to Rectors or priests-in-charge as applicable. Diocesan Canon XVII, Business Methods in Church Affairs" Section 2, last paragraph states: "The Diocesan Finance Committee shall provide an accounting of all trust and permanent funds held by or for the Diocese to the Convention, in the case of Diocesan funds, and to the beneficiaries, in the case of funds held for others, on at least an annual basis. The accounting shall include, for the calendar year most recently ended, the beginning and ending balance of each fund, the total of actual deposits into the fund, the total of actual disbursements from the fund, unrealized gains or losses, and realized gains or losses. The Vestry of each Parish or Mission Fellowship shall provide the same accounting to the Parish or Mission Fellowship at the Annual Meeting or as soon thereafter as possible. [emphasis added]. The board of any other institution connected with the Diocese shall provide the same accounting annually to the Diocesan Finance Committee by a date established by that committee."
Note that this requirement went into effect January 1, 2012. The 2012 statements will help parishes and organizations comply with the requirements of Canon XVII, stated above.
