searchNew Principal Search Update
Region 2 Superintendent, Cynthia Brictson, has solicited input from our parents and teachers. She is now in the process of interviewing candidates for Oak Grove Principal! Her understanding of our parent/teacher data, our strategic plan, and our ongoing school initiatives will guide her decision-making. We expect to her to submit a name by mid-May.
spirit_nightSpirit Night-Taqueria el Vecino
Spirit Night is on Tuesday, April 30th, from 4pm-10pm at Taqueria el Vecino!! This is our first time here so let's make it big. They are donating 10% of the total sells for the restaurant. That means we need to tell our friends, family, and colleagues to dine in or out with Taqueria el Vecino!!
lit_guildLiterary Guild Update
Attention all Literary Guild participants!
The Spring Literary Review is fast approaching and will be held on May 7, 2013. The cut-off date for qualifying will be April 29, 2013. If you do not finish your level this year, you may continue to work on the same level during the summer and next year. Hope to see you at the Review!
fundraisingNew PTA Fundraising Plan

The new PTA Fundraising plan for the 2013-2014 school year was approved at the PTA meeting held prior to the Multicultural Fair on April 20th.  Approved was the request to ask each family to make a one-time tax-deductible donation at registration rather than to hold a large fundraiser, such as Boosterthon. Every dollar given will stay at our school and go directly to the benefit of our students!

(More information to follow soon.)

WWWalking Wednesdays

WAY TO GO OAK GROVE!!!! We had yet another incredible turn-out on Wednesday with 317 walkers and bikers! Congratulations to Ms. Bolsen's class with 95% participation! They received the Golden Shoe Trophy this week!!!

Next Wednesday is the last Walking Wednesday for the school year. The class with the highest percentage of walkers and bikers will be awarded the Golden Shoe Trophy  to proudly display for one week. PLUS we will award the class with the overall highest percentage of walkers and bikers for this 8-week period with a cool prize! After 7 weeks, Ms. Albright's class is still in the overall lead with a slight 1% margin. So, please continue to walk or bike either from your homes or a designated parking area so that this will be a fair competition.

Get out and walk and/or bike and see which class wins the prize!

Remember to be safe and be seen!

fairMulticultural Fair an Art Show A Success!

Thank you so much to everyone who made this year's Multicultural Fair and Art Show such a success! Everyone enjoyed the beautiful and informative country displays, the fun arts and crafts, and the face painting and henna tattoos. Thank you to all of the families who made the delicious food and to Moe's Southwest Grill and the Golden Buddha for donating food.

Thank you so much to Ryan Lucas and Cultural Arts committee for organizing the Chinese Dance and the African Drumming workshops.

A big thank you to Beth Deery for organizing an amazing Art Show.

And, finally, a very special thank you to the Multicultural Fair Chairwomen - Shari Rao, Shruti Singal and Catherine Binuya - and your entire committee. Thank you for all of your hard work.

We need a lot of volunteers to make this a fun and successful day for our kids. If you can help, please sign-up here.

The theme for this year is "College Days." Parents join in the fun by wearing a college t-shirt. Let us know if you have a college flag that we can use for decoration.

Pre-ordered Field Day t-shirts will be handed out on May 1st. If you didn't order a t-shirt, please have your child wear the appropriate class color on Field Day:

Pre-K - Purple
Kindergarten - Orange
First Grade - Light Blue
Second Grade - Yellow
Third Grade - Navy Blue
Fourth Grade - Light Green
Fifth Grade - Black
Special Ed - Red

Parents please send $2-$5 with students to school for concessions, the Relay for Life 5th grade charity fundraiser and other fun activities (such as the opportunity to spray teachers/staff with water bottles). Your child may get wet at Field Day, so feel free to send a change of clothing.

In addition to Field Day, the Teacher Sunshine Committee is hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast from 8am to 9am to thank ALL parent volunteers (not just Field Day) for their help during the 2012-2013 school year. Please come and enjoy some breakfast and then stay to help out with Field Day!

Field Day is in the spirit of movement - so let's get out there and move while having some good old fashioned fun!

relay_lifeSupport the 5th Graders in Fundraising for the American Cancer Society
Oak Grove Elementary has been involved in helping the American Cancer Society fundraiser through its Adams Stadium DeKalb Relay for Life event for the past 11-12 years. For the last 6 years, our OGE 5th graders have
used the Relay for Life event as one of the "giving-back" components of their End of Year Celebration.

Please support our 5th graders in their efforts to reach their fundraising goals before their Relay for Life event on Friday, May 17 at 7:00P by clicking here
Then, please click on the orange "Donate Now" button and either choose to make a donation to our Oak Grove Elementary 5th Grade Team ($7,500 fundraising
goal) or to an individual 5th grader ($200 fundraising goal).
