admin_dayThank You OGE Office Staff!
Wednesday, April 24th, is Administrative Professionals Day. Let's show Ms. Collins, Ms. McWilliams and Ms. Scott our appreciation for everything they do to make our front office run so smoothly and efficiently. Cards, notes, and flowers are all appreciated!
superstarsMath SuperStars Update
Our last session, Session 7, was due Thursday, April 18th. Students who complete 5 of 7 sessions are eligible to receive a medal, and the top student in each grade level will receive a trophy. Worksheets may be downloaded here. Please note that late papers will be deducted 10 points. Keep up the great work!
lit_guildLiterary Guild Update
It's almost time for our Spring Literary Review, where students will be honored for finishing a Literary Guild level. The Review will take place on May 7th. In order to qualify, students must finish a level by April 29th, so that personalized trophies can be ordered. Hope to see you there!
WWWalking Wednesdays

Despite CRCT tests, we had a fabulous turn-out on Wednesday with 274 walkers!

Congratulations to Ms. Boykins' class for receiving the Golden Shoe Trophy again this week. We will continue to tally walkers and bikers for 2 MORE WEEKS.  The class with the highest percentage of walkers will be awarded the Golden Shoe Trophy to display proudly until the following week.

Following our last Walking Wednesday, we will award the class with the highest overall percentage of walkers a cool prize.  After six weeks, Ms. Albright's class is still in the overall lead.

Please continue to walk either from your homes or a designated parking area so that this will be a fair competition.

Remember to be safe and be seen!

field_dayField Day is Friday, May 3rd
Pre-K - 2nd Grade        9:00 am - 11:00 am
3rd Grade - 5th Grade 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Field Day is in the spirt of movement - so let's get out there and move while having some good old fashioned fun! The theme for this year's Field Day is "College Days."  A SignUp Genius link will be sent soon for volunteers to sign-up so save the date! We will need about 45 volunteers on May 3rd and 4-5 volunteers the day before to help the coaches set up the field. Parents and volunteers are asked to join in the "College Days Spirit" by wearing their college t-shirt (or any college t-shirt) and join in the fun. If any parents have a college flag, we would welcome it for decoration on Field Day.

Parents, please send $2-$5 with students to school for concessions, relay for life fundraiser and other fun activities such as opportunities to spray teachers/staff with water bottles, etc.

Also on this day, the Teacher Sunshine Committee is hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast from 8:00am-9:00am for all parents who have volunteered at OGE this year.

relay_lifeSupport the 5th Graders in Fundraising for the American Cancer Society
Oak Grove Elementary has been involved in helping the American Cancer Society fundraise through its Adams Stadium / DeKalb Relay for Life event for the past 11-12 years. For the last 6 years our OGE 5th graders have
used the Relay for Life event as one of the "giving-back" components of their End of Year Celebration.

Please support our 5th graders in their efforts to reach their fundraising goals before their Relay for Life event on Friday, May 17 at 7:00P by clicking here
Then, please click on the orange "Donate" button and either choose to make a donation to our Oak Grove Elementary 5th Grade Team ($7,500 fundraising
goal) or to an individual 5th grader ($200 fundraising goal).
    Relay for Life logo
They have been working very hard as individuals, as classes, and as an overall 5th grade team to meet their fundraising goals. They have raised about 50% of their overall $7,500 goal. Please help them get the rest of
    the way!

DeKalb County School System has announced the date for 2013-2014 Pre-K Lottery:

    Friday, April 26, 2013
    Registration will be from 8:30am-1:00pm.
Lottery Drawing will begin at 1:15pm.

    Dress Code Reminder:
Students' dress should be neat and allow for maximum comfort in a learning environment. In no way should a student's dress be a distraction in the classroom. Any dress deemed inappropriate by the teacher or an administrator will be addressed. Students violating the
dress code will be given an opportunity to go to the clinic to change clothes, or in cases where no other appropriate clothing is available at school, may be sent home to change into appropriate clothing. Students
should adhere to the following dress standards:
    • Hats, caps, bandanas, headbands, or any other unnecessary headcovering are not to be worn at school and before and after school on school buses, unless announced for special occasions.
    • Clothing with obscene or suggestive language, promoting gangs or violence, or racial or cultural insensitivity is not permitted, along with any clothing articles that advertise alcohol, sex, drugs, or tobacco.
    • Crop tops, halter tops, or any other shirts exposing the midriff are not allowed.
    • Shoulder straps on dresses, blouses, or shirts must be wide enough to support the garment.
    • Clothing should be proper fitting and not be oversized for the student. This allows for greater ease of movement and safety.
    • Pants are to be worn so that underwear is not visible.
    • Dresses, shorts, skirts, or skorts must be at least mid-thigh length and extend below the fingertips when arms are hanging downward.

Additionally, please refer to the dress code policy, including consequences for non-compliance, on page 18 of the Parent and Student Handbook .

Appropriate Behavior for the end of school:
Spring has sprung! Everyone is excited about the approaching end of the school year. Please remind your child that rules are still in place and must be followed in order to have a safe environment at school. Also,
remind your child that RESPECT is so important. What is said and how it is said can make a difference in someone's day. Remember: Treat others
the way you want to be treated.
