 Walking Wednesdays
Awesome Oak Grove! We had 243 walkers on Wednesday! Congratulations to Ms. Mainland's class which received the Golden Shoe Trophy, which they will keep for a week. The class that has the highest percentage of walkers will be awarded the Golden Shoe Trophy to display proudly until the next week. So get out and walk
and/or bike each week!
Please tell your children that there will be a sign-up sheet on the bench in the lobby for the EARLY WALKERS and the 4th and 5th grade band/strings and 5th grade patrol children that walk so they too can be counted.
Please do continue to walk either from your homes or a designated parking area so that this will be a fair competition. Thanks!

OGE Receives USDA Award
Last year the Nutrition and Wellness Committee worked with school and county staff, as well as two other elementary schools (Fernbank and Briarlake), to apply for the USDA's Healthier US School Challenge. We just found out that we were nationally recognized with the Bronze Award! To get more information and to see our school listed for recognition you can go to http://www.fns.usda.gov/tn/HealthierUS/Georgia.html
A more formal recognition ceremony is forthcoming and information will be shared as soon as it is available. This award reflects all that staff and parent volunteers are doing to provide student education and promote healthy habits at our school. |

Pi Day - 5th grade
The 5th graders at Oak Grove enjoyed a successful Pi Day on 3/14. Thank you Oak Grove Foundation for supporting Oak Grove's 3rd Annual Pi Day! The 5th grade students rotated through various stations learning about the use of pi (3.14). They were able to make T-Shirts, jewelry, and hats. They completed a Pi Day scavenger hunt in addition to memorizing and reciting many digits of pi.
Congratulations to Talia C. who came in first place with163 digits recited. Congratulations also to Jared C. who came
in second place with 144 digits recited. The fifth grade students had an awesome day!
Fire Marshall Inspector Visit
The Fire Marshall Inspector, Mr. W. Smith, visited OGE Friday, March 15th. Everything looked very good with a couple of exceptions:
1. More than 20% of walls in hallways & classrooms held displays.
2. Doors to the hallways need to be kept closed.
We are working to make sure the halls are clear and our displays are limited to 20% of the wall space. I will be talking with Mr. Burge, our DCSD Safety Officer, about the doors. We will keep you up to date.

Student Contest to Win A Laptop
IMS Electronics Recycling is sponsoring a district wide contest for DeKalb County Schools. This contest will help promote environmental awareness of E-waste disposal in our Georgia landfills. Georgia's EPA standards are less stringent than most states; therefore IMSE which is located in the center of DeKalb County is helping to lead the fight in promoting legislative change in Georgia and the Southeast Region.
The Earth Day 2013 contest will not only bring awareness and enlighten the community of environmental dangers, but also allow students to get involved and motivated. This contest will allow students from the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels, a chance to win a LAPTOP COMPUTER.
