Safe Routes to School
We're baaaacccckkkkkkk! Walking Wednesdays will resume on Wednesday, March 6th on Georgia Walk to School Day. As the weather starts getting a little warmer, please start (or continue) to walk and/or bike to school so we can cut down on traffic. It's a great way to start the day!
We will kick off Walking Wednesdays with our traditional Classroom Challenge which will be held on March 6th. Parents at the entrance, exit and backdoor of the school will tally how many kids from each class are walking or biking and each student in the two classes with the highest percentage of students walking or biking that day will receive a prize! More to follow!
Remember to be safe and be seen!

 Capital Campaign Update
February is almost over! This is the final week you can Show Your Love for Oak Grove!
A big part of what makes Oak Grove Elementary a great school is the commitment of our parents to its success. Every dollar of your donation goes to support technology and programs at Oak Grove. We are half way through this year's only Foundation fundraiser and only 38% of families have participated. Our website provides information about all the ways funds are used to improve our school, provide grants to our teachers and support our tradition of excellence.
Please Show your Love for Oak Grove. Any donation amount is your family's commitment to our school. Send a check to the Foundation through your child's teacher, drop a check by the front office, or donate online at www.oakgrovefoundation.org. |
 Thanks for Donations
Dear Oak Grove School,
Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your donations to the Mountain View Personal Care Home. Your generosity directly benefited the residents of Mountain View. Our community service project was a huge success due to your help. From your awesome donations, we were also able to send travel size donations to the Hagar House (shelter for battered women and children in Decatur). You truly did a wonderful thing! Thank you again for your generosity!

Thank You to The Ty Rhame Family Foundation for Technology Grant
Dear Mrs. Wilson and the Ty Rhame Family Foundation, On behalf of Oak Grove, I would like to thank the Ty Rhame Foundation for the Technology Grant we were awarded in late 2012. We received 9 laptop PCs and four color printers. This grant has allowed us to implement theInspired Classroom Model in our fourth grade classrooms. "Inspired Classrooms" is a new integration model that takes the teachingand learning enhancements found in 1-to-1 classrooms at the secondary level and puts them to use in "regular" classrooms at the elementary level. Moving away from a traditional classroom arrangement, the Inspired Classroom model brings four or five classroom computers from the perimeter of the room to the student's desks. The student desks are arranged in small groups that allow students to work cooperatively, and each group has dedicated access to a computer throughout the day. This arrangement allows the technology to become an integral part of the learning process rather than an extra "center" or reward or project station. Short of a 1-to-1 environment, the Inspired Classroom model goes the distance in getting the technology in front of "most of the kids, most of the time," and seamlessly integrated into the teaching and learning process. We believe that Inspired Classrooms can be the catalyst that transforms the way we teach and the way that students are learning." (click here for more about Inspired Classrooms)
Sincerely, Laura S. Neely, Ph.D. Principal Oak Grove Elementary School
