Candy Alternatives for Halloween
Nurse Jen wants you to consider this fun, new tradition and lower dental costs for your family. Have you heard of her friend the Switch Witch? She's a GOOD witch that visits your house on Halloween night, while the children are asleep. All they have to do is leave their candy on the front stoop. She rides in on her broom and switches their candy for an awesome non-sweet treat (toy, clothing item they need/ want, etc).
The Story of the Switch Witch
-The Switch Witch lives on candy.
-She has no teeth, of course, because they have all fallen out from sugar rot.
-Of course, the children should keep a small stash of candy for themselves. But the more
they leave, the better the non-sweet treat.
-She eats the boys' and girls' candy over the course of the year. And just as she runs out,
it's Halloween again. Time for another visit from the Switch Witch.
Consider treating the trick-or-treaters this year with alternatives to candy. Tattoos, pencils, spider rings, stickers, small juice boxes, and granola bars are a few ideas. |
Georgia PTA and the DeKalb Council of PTA's Weigh in on Charter School Ammendment
The statewide ballot in November will have a question which reads, "Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended to allow state or local approval of public charter schools upon the request of local communities". Georgia PTA and the DeKalb Council of PTAs do not support the passage of the Charter School Amendment on the November 6th General Election ballot.
Georgia PTA and the DeKalb Council of PTAs support the establishment of charter public schools where there is local control. They do not support the establishment of a State Charter School Commission that would be able to establish charter schools in local school districts without the approval or oversight of local boards of education. Opposition to this does not affect the charter schools that are currently established in DeKalb. Please read the Resolution in Opposition to the Charter School Amendment which passed by a majority vote and was adopted by the DeKalb Council of PTAs at a General Meeting on October 4, 2012. |
Lakeside Community Open House
Sunday, November 4, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
The Lakeside High School PTSA and the The Lakeside Foundation invite you to a Community Open House on Sunday, November 4th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Last spring guests were able to get a glimpse at the nearly completed $24 million renovation and expansion of LHS. Now guests will get a full look at the completed product!
Volunteers will give guided tours of the entire facility from the new Fine Arts Building with its 600-seat auditorium, band, orchestra, chorus and art classrooms to the 25-classroom addition; from the renovated Media Center to the Cafeteria with its outdoor patio and the newly completed Track and Fields! Guests will also have a chance to talk with Mr. Reed and students. They will also enjoy lively entertainment throughout the afternoon provided by students involved in Lakeside's wonderful Performing Arts Programs. PTSA and Foundation members will be on hand to sell commemorative bricks and to share information about future projects that need funding in order to meet the needs of our students and faculty.
So don't miss this great community event. Encourage your neighbors and friends to come see all that is happening inside their "new" neighborhood school! |
