Henderson Middle School needs our help!
The change in Henderson Middle School's
SPLOST IV status directly impacts today's Oak Grove students. Here's why...

  • Henderson Middle School (HMS) is the most overcrowded school in DeKalb County.
  • HMS was in line for a renovation and addition when SPLOST III money ran out.
  • HMS has been demoted on the project priority list (from item 3 to item 93) after being promised a high priority position for SPLOST IV. As a result:

HMS renovations are now scheduled to occur AFTER the replacement of lighting at multiple athletic stadiums in addition to the complete replacement of already renovated elementary schools.

Under the original schedule, all current Oak Grove students would have benefitted from SPLOST IV improvements while at HMS. Now, only Oak Grove students in Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade will reap the full benefits from renovations while at HMS.

  • DeKalb County can positively impact the most students at one time by doing the HMS project first.

The time for action is now! We, in cooperation with the other schools in the Lakeside cluster, are calling upon parents in our area to make their voices heard. We urge Oak Grove families to reach out to those in leadership positions to express their disappointment in HMS's demotion on the SPLOST IV priority list.
