General Assembly, Day 3
Lake Huron Friends,
This was the first full day of committee work. All 15 of the assembly committees met morning, afternoon and evening to work on the material which had been forwarded to them. They will bring their recommendations to the entire Assembly beginning on Wednesday.
These committees are large, many having 40-50 members. It takes very good leadership and cooperative committee members to manage to get the work done. We have a commissioner in Committee 4: Middle East Issues, Committee 5: Mid Council Issues, Committee 6:church Polity and Ordered Ministry, Committee 9: Social Justice Issues, and Committee 10: Civil Union and Marriage issues. As you can tell our commissioners will be discussing many of the essential issues before this assembly.
The General Assembly News which is our daily paper at the assembly, brought us the wonderful news that our Young Adult Advisory Delegate (YAAD) Erica Clark, from the Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church in Midland has been selected by all the YAAD's to serve as one of two co-moderators of the YAAD council. This is a great honor and will probably mean that she will be getting even less sleep than the other YAAD's as she is part of planning YAAD events. It is wonderful to see members from Lake Huron recognized for their God given abilities. Thank you for your service Erica!
Tomorrow will be another day of committee work, but I am sure that there will be some news to share with you then. Thanks to Staci for getting these reports formatted and forwarded to you.
In Christ,
Jim Browne, Interim General Presbyter and
Ted McCulloch, Stated Clerk
