Greetings!
Here is a brief summary of our action-packed trip to the Windy City. A special thanks is extended to Brent Todd and Land Land College Dual Credit Department for providing transportation and Greg Juriga of Charleston High School for chaperoning the trip. |
Field Trip Highlights
Cora Shaw, owner of iCream, was a wonderful host that discussed her challenges of starting the business and now franchise. Her future franchise stores will be in Dubai and other locations throughout the Middle East.
She and a fellow student started this shop as part of a class in college.
This innovative business uses liquid nitrogen to flash freeze their ice cream creations while you watch. This method makes the ice cream particularly smooth and fresh.
Jacob Miller, Cheyenne Neal and Max Smith are sitting on top of the world at Willis Tower.
Isaac, Max and Jacob styling with hats.
Max Smith, who will be joining the Marines this fall, posed in front of a stained glass window flag for me at Navy Pier.
Tony Zipparro, former EIU grad, BSC graduate assistant and owner of LLT Group, dined with us at Navy Pier and told us how his entrepreneurial journey.
Earl, Ann and Caroline of the Field Museum of Natural History, gave us a behind the scenes tour of the inner workings of the museum. Earl is the head engineer and showed us their new energy saving cooling pools that make ice to cool the building.
Believe it or not, the most efficient and green way to clean bones is with beetles. This beetle farm was established in the 1950's and this family of beetles have been picking bones clean every since.
The cryogenics lab is the second largest in the nation. Kraft Foods is the largest.
The museum stores and lends out species much like a lending library, with their own decimal system.
Thanks for a wonderful two days everyone. Keep in touch!
