Greetings!
I am looking for volunteers to listen and critique the students' final business pitch presentations from 7:30 - 9 am on Monday, April 22nd (at EIU Renewable Energy Center) and on Tuesday, April 23rd (at the Lifespan Center). You can volunteer for just one or both days. Each student will give a 10-15 minute pitch about their business, and they would love to hear your suggestions for improvment. This will also prepare them for questions they may be asked at the trade show. Please email me at [email protected] if you are willing and able to join us those days.
Please remember that the deadline to apply to be a part of next year's ClassE 2013-2014 has been extended. Click here for the student application. Please feel free to forward this
e-blast to students who may be interested in joining us next year!

Sales Strategies
Monday, we met at the EIU Renewable Energy Center, where we went over different ways to motivate employees. We heard about a business that has its employees take 24 hours to work on what ever they want, with whoever they want and then present it to their supervisor. This strategy did not only motivate the employees, some of the ideas benefited the company too! After going over different strategies the class broke up into groups and each got 10 names, addresses, emails, and telephone numbers.

Wave Graphics Tour
with Doug Paulson, and Dan Paulson
Tuesday, we met at Wave Graphics and got a tour from Doug and Dan Paulson. They told us about how there are three different types of clients: walk-ins, sales business, and contract business clients. We also learned that it is important not to rely too heavily on one client. The class also got to learn about outsourcing, Wave Graphics was outsourced by Reebok to help make their shirts.

Giving Back to the Community
with Joe Dively
Thursday, Joe Dively met with us at the Lifespan Center to talk to us about community involvement. Joe was very excited to tell us his involvement in our community, like volunteering at EIU's annual Special Olympics. He is also a Board member at Eastern Illinois University and a Chairman of the Board at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital. He said that his interest in community involvement comes from the way he was raised and that it is important for businesses to give back to the community. After talking about giving back to the community, Joe spoke more on business and left us with (S+K+E+A) which stands for Skills, Knowledge, Effort, and Attitude.
