McGrady Inn Tour
with Dave McGrady
Tuesday, we met up at the McGrady Inn, on 6th Street just off of Charleston's town square, where we met owner and EIU Finance Professor, Dave McGrady. Before our tour Dave had each student introduce themselves and their business and, after sharing how he first started out in apartment rentals, he spoke to the students about the advantages of having no employees and touched on having an in-home office versus having an out-of-home office. Throughout the whole visit he kept the students on their toes by asking tough questions about their businesses and hurdles that they may face.

Book Club
with Cheyenne Neal
Thursday, Cheyenne presented her thoughts on her book "A Whole New Mind, Why Right-Brainers Will Run The Future" by Daniel H. Pink. During her presentation,Cheyenne had the class take a quiz to determine which side of the brain they use the most, Left-brainers thought process tends to be more linear/logical, while the Right-brainers thought process tends to be more creative. In her book, Cheyenne learned that business owners who are Right-brained tend to be more successful than there Left-brained counterparts, but people who are in the middle and use each side equally tend to have the most success!

Team Building
with Frank Brummer
Friday, we were at the YMCA with Frank Brummer, who came in to perform some Team-Building exercises with the class. Frank talked to the class about finding something that you are very passionate about and becoming the best person at it. In the first exercise the students were divided into 4 groups and given stacks of newspaper and some tape, with the objective to build a free-standing tower as tall as they can within the allotted time limit. In the second and final event the students were given tape, straws, a paper towel, to make an egg holder that would protect the egg when dropped from a height of about six feet. The winning group of the egg drop was Ted, Max, and Isaac!
