Sandra Dal Poggetto: Meditations on the Field
Meloy and Paxson Galleries
Helena-based artist Sandra Dal Poggetto is featured in a solo exhibition of new and recent works.
Dal Poggetto uses an abstract language and fragments of the western landscape-hide, feathers, wood and wire-to create evocative paintings and drawings. Pulitzer-Prize winning author/critic Mark Stevens describes her works as "truthful reflection[s] of our culture's complex relation to the landscape of the West."
In addition to displaying her artwork, Dal Poggetto selected objects from the museum's Permanent Collection to illustrate different philosophical and aesthetic understandings of the human relationship to the natural world. Through Dal Poggetto's re-contextualization of these works, she probes, questions and reveals the past, calling for a renewed connection with nature.

MMAC CELEBRATES 120 YEARS
|
In 2015, the MMAC Permanent Collection celebrates its 120th anniversary. To commemorate this important event, MMAC published the first-ever handbook of the collection, The Art of the State, which presents 120 pieces carefully selected from the overall 11,000 objects. A series of birthday celebrations are planned to take place throughout the year. As such, the treasures featured in this publication will be on display in an exhibition in the Meloy and Paxson galleries in the PARTV Center from January 22- May 23, 2015.
The image, Icon of Mary Theotokos is among the reproductions highlighting details of original artwork in the MMAC Permanent Collection. They are currently on display on the lower level of Main Hall.
This collection belongs to the students, faculty and staff of the University of Montana and all Montana citizens. To purchase a handbook, donate to the building fund, or find out more about upcoming exhibitions, visit www.umt.edu/montanamuseum/ or call 243-2019.

MMAC Interns
Garrett Bryant recently completed a summer internship at MMAC. Garrett took numerous art and art history classes while pursuing his EdD candidate in Educational Leadership. For his internship, he focused on cataloging the Martin S. Ackerman Foundation donation of American and British prints and photographs. This fall, Garrett will continue his studies while assuming a new role assisting Nathan Lindsay, Associate Provost for Dynamic Learning, with academic assessment. Goodbye and Best of Luck, Garrett!
MMAC welcomes Kristina Myer, who is completing her BFA with interest in curatorial work. During her time at UM, she served as co-director of the UC Gallery, helping to bring a variety of innovative artists to the gallery. At MMAC, Kristina will lend her writing skills to develop art historical summaries, artist biographies, exhibition labels and grant narratives.
