Back to the Business Future
By: Ballard Betz
In the 1985 sci-fi classic Back to the Future, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) travels 30 years back in time by accidentally taking the wheel of Dr. Emmett Brown's plutonium-powered time machine. In order to return to 1985, McFly needs to replace the plutonium he depleted with an alternative source of energy that can still generate the "1.21 gigawatts" of power required by the machine's "flux capacitor." Ultimately, Dr. Brown harnesses the power of lightning, and McFly makes it back to the future.
This nearly 30-year-old movie is still relevant today because everyone, especially small business owners, can relate to the novelty and scarcity of time. "If only there were more hours in the day!" Is this not the universal battle cry of every Main Street entrepreneur? While time travel remains elusive, advancements in technology over the last three decades are nothing short of science fiction. Only instead of harnessing gigawatts, 21st century entrepreneurs are harnessing gigabytes!
Keep reading to learn about the five functions of mobile technology that, if not yet employed in your small business, represent real opportunities for growth and increased profitability.
