American Supplier Initiative Kicks Off

Building Robust Small Business Supply Chains

Being a supplier to a large business is a game changer.  But, we know that small businesses often lack the capital, skills and access to market opportunities to be effective suppliers.  We want to change that!

That's why the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) launched the American Supplier Initiative, a federal government-wide initiative designed to increase government and commercial supply chain opportunities for small firms.  This is important because small businesses who are suppliers to large corporations reported revenue growth of more than 250 percent and employment increased by more than 150 percent on average.

As a part of the American Supplier Initiative, the U.S. Small Business Administration is holding a series of supply chain events, in collaboration with federal agencies and private companies, throughout the country to provide the tools and resources needed for small businesses to become effective suppliers.  And we want to make connecting your business to large companies easier and more efficient.  The first of these events will be held in Atlanta, GA, on May 20th.

Location: Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Building (77 Forsyth Street SW, Atlanta, GA, 30303)

Date/Time: Monday, May 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Registration is required. There is no cost to participate in this event.

Business University: Supervisory Academy Leadership versus Management

People who are excellent at doing a particular job task are often promoted into management without a clear understanding of what it takes to lead people. Leadership requires a focus on people in addition to the tasks of the job. Throughout this self-discovery learning module, the participants will explore leadership qualities and characteristics that employees expect. They will explore the difference between managing tasks and leading people. After examining their own leadership style, a discussion in regards to how leaders are perceived will set the tone for the transformational progression for this series.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define leadership and discuss the qualities of great leaders.
  • Explore how your talents, behaviors, knowledge, skills and values impact your leadership style.
  • Identify qualities that are universally expected of leaders.

Location: NGCEE Office located in Downtown Dalton (113 West Gordon Street, Dalton)

Date/Time: Tuesday, May 21, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
