United Performing Arts Fund News
Snow finally arrived in Southeastern Wisconsin, encasing our landscape like a blank canvas. The entire UPAF team is excited to fill that canvas with images of what is in store for the New Year, building on the achievements of 2012. To assist with the transition to 2013, UPAF hosted its Annual Meeting in mid-December, where we celebrated the past year's successes. We also had the opportunity to look ahead by formally introducing our Campaign Co-Chairs, unveiling a new Arts Education Grant Program and announcing our new home. Before turning the page, we would like to express our deep gratitude to retiring Board members: Alec Fraser, Sue Frautschi, Wade Hobgood, Mike Jones, Paul Mathews and Pat Noble. We are also deeply indebted to Rich Meeusen for his incredible leadership as Board Chair for the past two plus years. His vision of what UPAF could be is now our reality. Fortunately, Rich will continue to serve on the Board and Executive Committee. We are pleased to welcome our new Board Chair, Tina Chang, who brings a wealth of entrepreneurial experience, vast connections and innovative ideas. Our 2013 Campaign Co-Chairs, Chuck Harvey of Johnson Controls, Gail Lione, formerly of Harley-Davidson and Skip Poliner of Northwestern Mutual, have been regularly meeting with the UPAF staff since early September. The three leaders have actively recruited almost 90 Cabinet members, representing eleven different Divisions. The early momentum will continue to gain steam as the Campaign Kickoff draws near. Be sure to mark your calendar for that special event on Tuesday, March 12.We strongly believe all children should have the opportunity to explore the wonderful world of the performing arts. To do its part, UPAF is rolling out a new Arts Education Grant Program. Dollars allocated to this program will help ensure UPAF Member Groups have the required resources to continue delivering exceptional arts education curriculum to 400,000 children. Our goal is to help fill the gap that currently exists in many classrooms. Who could possibly do that better than our Member Groups?UPAF is thrilled to be in our new offices at 301 W. Wisconsin Avenue. This space in the Matthews Building will allow for the necessary operational efficiencies to grow the Campaign. Simply put, we need more room to accommodate the many volunteers who donate their talents throughout the year. The UPAF team would like to express its sincere appreciation of the Marcus Center staff for allowing us to be part of your family for more than 40 years. We look forward to seeing everyone when we "come back home" to experience the amazing productions at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.As you can see, our canvas is quite distinct and vibrant as we embrace January. UPAF is grateful for your ongoing commitment and confidence. Please know that you are making an enormous difference. Each individual's effort is an essential brush stroke for creating the 2013 performing arts scene. We wish you a glorious New Year!
