United Performing Arts Fund News
As the cold winds of November blow in, our thoughts turn to the upcoming holiday season. As Thanksgiving approaches, I would like to thank you for your generosity to the performing arts through UPAF. Your contributions not only ensure exceptional performances and arts education programming, they create a ripple effect that uplift our community and make it a dynamic, diverse and vibrant place in which to live.
The performing arts enable us to connect with each other and open our minds to fresh perspectives. My youngest daughter recently had a glimpse into what life could be like when a child is suddenly transformed into an adult - as "Josh" was in First Stage's production of "BIG the Musical." Watching Josh's journey made my daughter grateful to still live in a child's mind AND body.
While attending the Rep's production of "The Diary of Anne Frank" with my oldest daughter, I was reminded of the powerful way the arts share the lessons of history by connecting us emotionally with characters, live on stage, and involving us in their personal stories. A distinct benefit of good theater is how it makes us reflective of and grateful for our own lives. We are fortunate to have such a wide variety of performances so readily available to us in our very own backyard. Your contributions to UPAF are instrumental in making all this happen.
The holidays are a particularly wonderful time to experience the arts as we open our hearts to the joy of the season. Attending a performance with people you care about, perhaps indulging in dinner downtown and taking in the lights, is a great way to get your holiday spirit flowing. Now is the time to plan ahead and book your holiday performances. While you are at it, use your UPAF smART card for buy one, get one free tickets.
And speaking of the UPAF smART card, if you are struggling to find the perfect holiday gift for someone special, consider donating $100 to UPAF in the name of that person. By doing so, you are giving the gift of a year full of enjoyable and engaging entertainment. The smART card is good for buy one, get one free tickets to each of UPAF's 15 Member Groups (a $500 value), making it the ideal gift for performing arts lovers!

Affiliate Group Spotlight: Boulevard Ensemble Studio Theater Don Juan in Hell
by George Bernard Shaw
 | | Photo by Troy Freund |
This entertaining play debates love, war and the eternal battle of the sexes with sublime wit and devilish charm. The Boulevard production will provide a rare opportunity for Milwaukee audiences to enjoy Shaw's elegant phrasing and delightful wit as presented in this tale of the legendary lover "Don Juan" being pursued by a former lover (and her father), even in Hell! To augment Mr. Shaw's already near-musical text, the production interpolates selected songs from another clever and delightful writer, the noted playwright and composer Noel Coward. Coward's songs will both comment on Shaw's deviously entertaining dialogue and reinforce his narrative themes.
