K-8 Corner October

Happy Fall from all of us in the K-8 department.

Classes will be in swing starting this month and students will be attending the optional classes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  We are excited to begin interacting with students in the classroom each week and have some fun lessons plan.  All classes will provide enrichment for the students as well as focus on social skills and team building.

The students attending classes in grades 3 through 8 need to bring math work to class in order to take advantage of the math tutoring offered in the class.  Students may bring the math assignment for that day or worksheets focused on specific skills that the student needs extra practice in.  Students enrolled in the Aventa program must bring the log-in and password to class so that work can be completed on the Aventa program during this math tutoring time.  These students must also bring the math notebook used to take notes while working through the lesson.

During the month of October we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week in different ways in the classes.  Students will learn about the importance of saying, "NO" to drugs and alcohol.  They will be involved in group projects as well to celebrate Red Ribbon Week.

We have an exciting field trip to Green Oaks Ranch coming up.  We encourage ALL of our K-8 students to sign up for this fabulous 2 day field trip.  There will be drama, dancing, field activities, animal adventures, delicious lunches, and many more fun activities.  The cost is only $40 which covers the cost of both days of camp, October 23 and 24.  Please look for information coming via email and for the field trip forms in the office after the first week of October.  The K-2 class will be cancelled on October 23 due to this field trip to Green Oaks Ranch.

Welcome Ms. Raab
I have an 11 year old son, whom I adore.  I have lived overseas three times (Israel, France, Czech Republic) and earned my Master's degree in Vermont.  I keep returning to CA, because I love the weather.  I like wearing shorts at Christmas.  I enjoy going to the beach and lakes, reading historical fiction, playing with my son, and going to concerts.  Whether it is Red, Van Halen, Johnny Lang, Gypsy Kings, or Randy Travis - I love music!
I teach history because I think it is very important to understand where we've been.  If my students can see the connection to their lives today, then I've done my job.  Getting my students past the initial emotional reaction to an issue, and having them really think through all sides is very important. I love working with teenagers.  It is fun to get them to think outside the box and to spark their interest.  I believe that we are meant to do life together.  That means we cheer each other on, celebrate together, and support each other.  If we all have an interest in one another, then we all have a chance to succeed.

Are You Ready to ShakeOut?
October 17th

On the third Thursday of October each year, we
join the millions of Californians who will "Drop,
Cover, and Hold On" in
The Great California
ShakeOut,
the largest earthquake drill ever!
Why is a "Drop, Cover, and
Hold On" drill important? As with anything, to act quickly you must
practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake before strong
shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you.

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!
Do you need an official transcript?  It's easy....
Have your parent fill out a transcript request in the front office.  Each official copy requires a payment of $3.00.
Please contact Kira Fox at ext. 105 with any questions.
