SurveyBreakthrough Business Alliance To Cut Health Costs
President and CEO Leah Binder's latest on Forbes.com

Earlier this month, 20 large U.S. companies (including power players Coca-Cola, Verizon, and American Express) announced plans to band together to accelerate the transformation of the U.S. health care system. With value-based care as the goal, this group endeavors to slash health care costs and improve quality.

In her latest Forbes.com piece, President and CEO Leah Binder builds a compelling link between this positive momentum and the subprime mortgage debacle of the late 2000's, as brought to life by the recent film The Big Short.

"These bold 20 transformational business leaders are wise to research for themselves what they get from providers when they bypass their health plan bundlers. Certainly they will consider price, but like subprime mortgages, dollars don't tell the story the way quality does... Employers can and should short the market when the risks are too high. Subprime health services are no bargain."

President and CEO Leah Binder was a featured guest on Mark Graban's LeanBlog podcast last month. (You may recognize Mark from Leapfrog's recent Annual Meeting!) The two talked patient safety, the Lean philosophy, and what hospitals are doing right now to improve on quality and safety. Here's a sneak peek:

"The variation in quality, outcomes and safety in hospitals is extraordinarily persistent and problematic. There is no family in this country that shouldn't be absolutely focused on making sure they're going to the best places."

The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions. The Hospital Safety Score, Leapfrog's other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
