SurveyCapital BlueCross Using Leapfrog to Drive High-Value Care
Capital BlueCross partners with Leapfrog on pay-for-performance program

Capital BlueCross is the first health insurer in Pennsylvania to partner with The Leapfrog Group on our Leapfrog Hospital Recognition Program. This freestanding pay-for-performance tool uses data from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey to reward hospitals that consistently provide high-quality care to their members, and spark improvements across communities.

"We are very pleased to see one of Pennsylvania's most prominent health insurers, Capital BlueCross, acknowledge these hospitals through the quality recognition program. In doing so, they are promoting excellence in care for patients across central Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley." - Leah Binder, Leapfrog President and CEO

We look forward to working with Capital BlueCross to ensure its members have access to high-value, safe hospital care.

SurveyMore Hospitals than Ever Participating in Leapfrog
Leapfrog Hospital Survey participation highest to date

The final numbers are in! In 2015, 1,750 hospitals from across the country completed our voluntary survey on hospital safety, quality and resource use. Participating hospitals included critical access hospitals, general, acute-care facilities, and even specialty hospitals like cancer facilities and pediatric care centers. We applaud these hospitals' commitment to transparency, benchmarking, and continuous improvement.

Better data means better choices for consumers and purchasers. Find out what hospitals in your community chose to be transparent about their record of care.

One doctor is on a mission to reduce C-section rates

In the U.S., nearly one in three women gives birth by C-section - a number that has skyrocketed over the last 50 years.

Dr. Neel Shah is trying to understand why there is so much variation between hospitals - and to educate providers and patients about the risks of unnecessary C-sections. We've added this excellent video to our library of tools and resources around C-sections.

If you missed Leapfrog's groundbreaking release on C-section data this fall, learn more here about the rates of C-sections in your community's hospitals.

SurveyTrim the Waste and Eight Other Resolutions for Health Care in 2016
President and CEO Leah Binder's message for policymakers

Many health care leaders spend the last weeks of December making predictions about the next big thing in health care. But President and CEO Leah Binder is not making predictions--she's outlining resolutions we all can take to heart to make health care better.

"Consumers and businesses have an insatiable appetite for more information about everything that is happening in health care, and ultimately they won't take no for an answer... In the internet information age, expectations are changing, and providers are better off resolving to change a culture of non-disclosure into one of transparency."

Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions. The Hospital Safety Score, Leapfrog's other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
