SurveyTransparency Only Has Impact When People Are Looking
RWFJ publishes perspective on the Hospital Safety Score.

The Leapfrog Group is proud to be supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which has funded the Hospital Safety Score since its very beginnings.

In just our first year, stories about the Hospital Safety Score appeared in nearly 3,500 media outlets--accounting for 30 million impressions in local and regional media throughout the country. Since 2012, the Hospital Safety Score has grown to be a trusted tool for consumers and purchasers to find a safer hospital.

"Patient safety remained a persistent problem, still killing as many Americans as before, despite significant progress with transparency. We thought it was time to change the game."-Leah Binder, president and CEO, Leapfrog Group

Pre-order your 2015 competitive benchmarking report

Leapfrog's competitive benchmarking reports utilize data submitted through the 2015 Leapfrog Hospital Survey to offer hospitals insights on how they compare nationally and regionally. Hospitals that completed a 2015 survey by June 30 are eligible to receive a free summary report. Free reports will be mailed to all hospital CEOs in mid-September.

If your hospital wants more detailed information, choose a report that lets you compare critical aspects of your care to Leapfrog's database of over 1,500 hospitals. Excellent tools for improving quality, these special competitive reports engage board members and administrators, clinical staff and support staff, and were developed at the request of hospitals. Hospitals can pre-order reports now; reports will be available in mid-September.

Binder tells her story and urges hospitals to strive for excellence

For the third time, President and CEO Leah Binder has been named to Modern Healthcare's Top 25 Women in Healthcare list. In this profile series, The Furst Group dives into what makes Leah tick, what purchasers can do to join the transparency movement, and why she works so hard to ensure that hospitals provide safe, high-quality care.

"When ordinary people like me make mistakes - perhaps we miss an appointment or forget to get milk from the grocery store - they don't have a huge impact. But when you're in healthcare, even minor mistakes can have catastrophic effects."

Compare hospitals on what matters to you

New websites have been cropping up, billing themselves as the "Priceline for health care," where patients can seek out treatment or procedures for the price they want to pay. In this KPCC piece, President and CEO Leah Binder has a word of caution: not all providers are alike.

Choosing a hospital can be one of the most important decisions of your life. Erica Mobley contributes to this SafeBee article, advising, "Taking an active role in choosing your hospital is wise. Do it before you are sick."

Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions. The Hospital Safety Score, Leapfrog's other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
