We bid farewell to Nancy Mahler and Maude Carr as they transition from our regular board to the advisory board. We are very grateful for their service. Maude and Nancy have contributed tremendously to the well-being of FETA. Pete and Nancy's Chinquapin Farm and Maude's Hidden Hollow Farm have many FETA trails which they so generously share.
We are delighted to welcome Liz Dicey and Aleah Wicks to our board. They bring a great deal to our board. Please welcome them when you see them!
Liz is a retired educator. She has been a local resident for a year. Liz is an ardent rider and dedicated to the welfare of our trail system. Her interest is in both dressage and trail.

Aleah is a certified Japanese Acupuncturist at Fat Dog Farm which is home to her horses, chickens, and of course a fat dog.
We are a volunteer-based system. From time to time we need help from our members. If you would be interested in being "on call" to help clean up from this summer's damaging weather, please send your name and phone number to jkerns101@gmail.com. Help is needed to trim and pick-up branches (no chain saws). We greatly appreciate those of you who have donated funds to this cause. Repair work has been extensive on the trails this year. We are currently focusing on repairs on the North Peniel trails.
Even though there were a number of competing events going on, we had a lovely turnout for our annual FETA BBQ and Members' Meeting. Food was delicious and one of our framed FETA trail maps (artistic rendition) was sold for $200 with all proceeds going to the Amy Barrington Recovery Fund. Thank you Don and Liz!
Ride safe and friendly and watch for bees . . . this is the season.
From my stall,
Judith

Trails Update from Anne Swift
|
This summer was one of the most challenging summers in FETA trail maintenance history. The nonstop rain eroded trails, washed out creek crossings, left sink holes and caused trees to fall throughout the system. Then we were hit with the microburst/mini tornado which took down trees from Red Fox Road to Carriage Row to River Rd and up Cartwrights Trace through FENCE. For anyone that did not see the damage it looked like a war zone. Huge, beautiful hardwood trees were down everywhere. All the damage on the trails has now been repaired. Over 50 trees were cut out of the trails, numerous stream crossings have been restored and we just finished building a bridge across the creek on the Red Fox Run Trail. Kostlee Bridge has been rebuilt, Green Gait/Dark Horse trail has been redone several times, and the list goes on. There are several individuals that made it possible for all this work to be done, and done so quickly. Faith Jorgenson and her crew have worked tirelessly clearing trails of trees and debris. Carol Propest has worked double time to get the system re-opened. Carol is often seen out on the trails in "Pete" the red FETA work mule. Jonathan Rowe is like an angel to FETA. He has worked Sundays with his equipment to fix the trails from this summer's storms. James Hickok and Bill Tucker from the Mahler's Chinquapin Farm have done fantastic work repairing the Pony Track stream and more. When you are riding and see these people please say hi and thank them. Many of the trails would still be closed if it weren't for their hard work and giving spirit.
On the Peniel side of the system Bob Lesowitz has put in hundreds of volunteer hours clearing and
maintaining trails on Little Mountain. Without him, I don't know how we would manage all those trails. Jim and Ann Troppmann had tremendous damage to their trails and have spent countless hours repairing them. Kerry Holmberg and Jordan Hicks spent a day clearing and reporting damage that needed large equipment. Thanks to everyone for their help!
This summer has made us once again realize what a gift this system is and how we all need to help keep it going.
Rebuilding the bridge on Red Fox Run Trail. Finished
