Lanny & Susan Pelletier

"Growing up, I always enjoyed working with my hands and creating things. I got my BFA in Graphics at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC, but it was after my graduation in 1972 that I began my 40-year career with pottery and also married my wife, Susan. That summer, I was asked to help build the pottery department at Wilson Technical Institute, where I taught for four years, beginning lifelong friendships with other potters such as Joe and Tonda Jeffcoat, Dan Finch, and Hiroshi Sueyoshi. Susan and I eventually settled in Carteret County and began a private studio, launching Pelletier Pottery.
Turquoise vase
When established, Pelletier Pottery was predominately known for the Bear line. It was a collaborative effort, I would throw the pots while my wife would design and sculpt the bears that would adorn cookie jars, bowls, and baby sets. We traveled the Southeast Coast with our two children, born in 1980 and 1982, doing prestigious art shows such as Coconut Grove and Virginia Beach Boardwalk Show, as well as selling in shops throughout North and South Carolina.
Teapot
We made the Bear line for almost 30 years and Susan and I enjoy hearing stories from patrons who had received a baby set as a child, their children using it now. But with our own children now working overseas in South Africa and Slovakia, we decided to stop making the Bears and redefine Pelletier Pottery.
Covered Jar
I still hand-throw all the pots while Susan designs and sculpts the decorative details, but we've developed new glazing styles and designs to reflect a larger, more functional style of pottery that incorporates our personal artistic concept. All works are made with lead-free glazes and high fired to Cone 10 for optimal use in ovens, microwaves, and dish washing machines.
After 40 years, creating pottery has remained an invigorating experience that keeps me continually learning and growing as an artist."
| Airlie | In addition to working with Lanny on the pottery, Susan is a phenomenal painter whose subjects can challenge the viewer with their uncompromising gaze. She works primarily in acrylics, masterfully portraying the people who make up her world.

Feather earrings
Mercedes has recently begun a jewelry line, and we are pleased to offer it. Her linear forms and imagery are reminiscent of her paintings, and are striking in their simplicity. The jewelry is made of bronze and is hand finished in either a gold or antique silver finish.
