We just love the variety we see from American craftspeople! We also love the idea of using renewable and recyclable resources. Here are offerings from four craftspeople who focus on sustainablility. Click on any photo for more of the artists' work. | Wooden scroll earrings |

G enuine Sea Glass has become a rare find. To supplement the natural supply, Austin Allen began recreating the beach glass process. Today, the sea-style glass used in her jewelry is primarily recycled glass, created from broken bottles, stained glass remnants, and beads. This colorful glass is broken, formed and finished in the studios, then tumbled with genuine beach sand, gravel, and salt water to replicate the roll of ocean waves. | Sea Stones |
Sea Stones bring the beauty of nature into homes, while still leaving our shores and forests unchanged. They gather stones from private rivers and beaches, with permission. When a stone is collected, there will always be a replacement for future gatherers. So for each one harvested, a new stone (purchased from a quarry) is planted in the water. Over the years, the water tumbles the rough 'seed' into a smooth, rounded stone, which is then used to make a wine glass, wine bottle stopper, or a napkin ring. | Fossil Leaf Peach Bangle

Beauty for Beauty's Sake
|
 | Jim Whalen Pot |
Jim Whalen's pots are wheel thrown, burnished and coated with terra sigillata. After bisque firing, he creates patterns and images with wax resist. The pots then go through a two stage firing process; the first is a low temperature salt firing, the second a sawdust firing. Both of these firings produce random chaotic markings on the surface of each pot. The wax resist separates the effects caused by each process into distinct areas giving definition to the patterns without losing the vitality of chaos. The patterns come from the subconscious. Beautiful!

C S Lewis On Love...
|
"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."
