HOME SWEET HOMEWOOD'S CHOCOLATE FEST

Saturday, February 15

11:00 AM until 2:00 PM

H-F Park District Auditorium

2010 Chestnut Road

Home Sweet Homewood's 12th Annual Chocolate Fest is Saturday, February 15 from 11 AM to 2 PM in the Village Auditorium located at 2010 Chestnut Road. The Homewood Community Relations Commission hosts this event each year because of Homewood's obsession with all things sweet and chocolate.  The obsession began in the early 70's when Mitchell's Ice Cream and Candies first opened shop on Dixie Highway.  Their recipes span generations, which led to an event that celebrates all things sweet and yummy!

For the past 12 years, the event - scheduled around Valentine's Day - brings national and independent retailers together to serve up their best recipes.  The Commission expects between 600 - 800 visitors to enter the doors and shop the best chocolate recipes, meet up with friends, and participate in the festivities.

This year, kid-friendly activities include strawberry dipping, cupcake frosting, nature projects by the Homewood Tree Committee, and face painting from TALK. Visitors will learn from the pros with live baking demonstrations on stage at the festival:

At 11:30, Karen Scobbie, a Homewood resident and a professional cake designer who starred on TLC's Ultimate Cake-Off will demonstrate how to create an edible arrangement, using cupcakes, flower pots, and pretty papers.  She'll make the perfect centerpiece for a romantic table for Valentine's Day or spring birthday party. Scobbie's cake designs are second-to-none and have been featured in the leading wedding magazines and on national television.

At 12:30, World of Enrichment, a unique and creative learning center for children will feature a recipe from their Cooking with Kids Class.  They will create yummy, caramel apple empanadas; the perfect Bolivian snack for kids to bring to school and they only take 20 minutes to make and bake.  World of Enrichment's Cooking with Kids classes teach kids how to experience the world through taste and smell and they help children make healthy food choices as they learn more about the food we grow.

The annual bake-off contest will feature recipes from local amateur bakers and candy makers.  A panel of guest judges will determine the best recipe and then the public is welcome to taste each entry. The open tasting also serves as a fundraiser for the Homewood Veteran's Committee to help them reach local active and retired veterans. To learn more click here.
