The drive will be held at the fire station located at 17950 Dixie Highway. To make an appointment to donate blood,

Every Saturday, Mayor Rich Hofeld is available to meet with residents at Village Hall from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. He often brings guests to help facilitate productive conversation; you will find a department head from public safety, public works, or community development, along with the Village Manager and Trustees on any given Saturday. Joining the Mayor on Saturday November 23 will be Public Works Director John Schaefer. The following Saturday November 30, Village Hall will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday. However, the Mayor will still be available to meet, and accompaning the Mayor will be his beautiful Black Lab,  Ruby.

The Village of Homewood is excited to launch 'Holiday Pop-Up Shops' spaces for indie crafters. This trend is sweeping the nation and Homewood is proud to be the first in the South Suburbs to offer shoppers this opportunity to find one-of-a-kind items that are not in any mall. We are also excited to introduce a new tradition - the Holiday Window Walking Tour, featuring whimsical and bright holiday vignettes to complement a whole new shopping experience for residents and visitors to downtown Homewood.  It really is one-stop holiday fun. Click here for locations and more information.

Advocate South Suburban Hospital is hosting the outdoor skating rink on Martin Avenue, just south of Ridge Road on Friday,
 December 6 and Saturday,  December 7. The rink is fully staffed and provides skates for all ages at no charge. The rink is synthetic ice and is open regardless of weather conditions. For more information please call 708-3000. Click here to learn more about our sponsor.

"Holiday Lights in Homewood" weekend festival celebrates the season with a tree lighting ceremony, outdoor marketplace, unique shopping opportunities and a free synthetic ice skating rink on Friday December 6 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM and Saturday December 7 from 12:00PM to 8:00PM.

 

The "Holiday Lights" on Friday will be filled with musical trolley rides through the downtown Homewood business district. Merchants are offering children's craft activities, holiday hors d'oeuvres and special "Holiday Lights" discounts. At 7:00PM  the annual tree lighting ceremony begins at Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Ave. Participants can enjoy the splendor of the tree, warm their hands by the bon fire and welcome Santa on his traditional fire engine arrival. Enjoy the outdoor market on Hickory Road filled with not-for-profits selling delicious holiday treats. On Martin Avenue enjoy live reindeer and ice sculpting demonstrations by Nadeau's Ice Sculptures beginning at 7:15PM.  Foundation 153 is selling premium-grade Fraser Firs from Michigan with easy pick-up and loading assistance. HOLIDAY LIGHTS CONTINUES ON DECEMBER 7

12:00PM to 8:00 PM

 

On Saturday, December 7, the ice skating and shopping continues from noon to 8:00PM and visitors can enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides around downtown Homewood from 4:30PM to 6:30PM, located by the ice rink. 

 

Stores continue to offer art projects for children, including a scavenger hunt to find clues that lead to a magical gingerbread village, a replication of downtown Homewood created by Flossmoor resident Janet Gustafson. This unique gingerbread village is open from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Gustafson's villages have been seen on ABC/WLS and WGN.  Admission to the gingerbread village is free. HOLIDAY GIVING TREE

For 10 years the Village of Homewood has participated in the Giving Tree Program. This wonderful program gives local residents an opportunity to share in the holiday spirit and purchase gifts for a Homewood youth that may not have the opportunity to open a gift on Christmas morning.

 

The tree is filled with local children's information, age, size, and desired gift. The Giving Tree can be found in the lobby of Village Hall, 2020 Chestnut Road. Gifts can be wrapped or unwrapped; attach the child's information on the gift and deliver it no later than December 19, to Department of Public Works, 17755 Ashland Avenue. The Village has installed speakers at the Veterans Memorial, and Taps will be played each evening at sundown in honor of our Veterans. Each Sunday, the song Last Post will be played before Taps as well. 

FALL LEAF PICK-UP COLLECTION

It is time for the Fall Leaf Pick-Up collection. The free leaf pickup is conducted on the same day as regular curb side garbage pick-up (residential):

This program requires that only leaf debris be collected sticker free if set out in the usual brown paper bags or in scavenger approved "toter" carts. Remember, only leaf debris will be picked up at no sticker cost. For additional information, please call Homewood Public Works at (708)206-3470.
