CNN MONEY RANKS VILLAGE OF HOMEWOOD NO.3 IN THE NATION

Report states residents living in this growing town see their incomes go the farthest.
The Village of Homewood was ranked No.3 out of 25 American towns in CNN Money's Best Places to Live with Affordable Homes report.
CNN Money describes Homewood as a growing community that attracts residents from creative industries, such as" musicians, designers, art curators and educators." The report highlights that the affordability of homes makes it "easier for them to follow their muses."

PUP CRAWL WITH SOUTH SUBURBAN HUMANE SOCIETY

This Saturday, come support SSHS, visiting five local bars: Grape and Grain, 5th Quarter, Lassen's, Ridgewood Tap, and Tin Ceiling. ROAD CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN IN HOMEWOOD | |
HARWOOD AVENUE CONSTRUCTION
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is scheduled to begin construction on Harwood Avenue on August 19, 2013. Gallagher Asphalt Corp. will perform the work for IDOT which is scheduled for completion by October 4, 2013. The project will consist of permanently channeling a section of Harwood Avenue to one-way southbound between Elm Road and Dixie Highway by installing new curb to narrow the road. The entire roadway will then be resurfaced with new asphalt from 183rd Street to Dixie Highway with some minor curb and sidewalk repair.
183rd STREET RESURFACING
Resurfacing of 183rd Street started August 12. The resurfacing will extend from Riegel Road to Halsted Street and is scheduled to be completed within 5 weeks, weather permitting.
The work to be performed under this contract consists of minor curb and sidewalk repair, asphalt surface removal, leveling binder, new asphalt surface course, pavement marking, traffic signal detector loop replacement and any other incidental and collateral work necessary to complete the project.This section of 183rd Street will remain open throughout construction; however, expect delays when traveling during the day.

For over 30 years Homewood has hosted a farmers market with the finest vendors selling fresh food, drinks, vegetables, flowers, and more! Homewood's market is located at Village Hall parking lot, 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
Hey Parents! While shopping at the market, have your kids create their own instruments. Members of the Homewood Flossmoor Symphonic and Viking Jazz Bands will be at the Farmers Market to help kids create shakers, harmonicas, clackers, and drums for a small donation towards their spring trip to China. The group will be performing in Beijing and Shanghai; a special highlight will be a tour of the ancient city "wall" in China with a possible evening performance concert.
Music Performance this Week: Sneak preview of indie duo Sweet Nobody and their album titled "Homewood". Sweet Nobody is an independent musical duo that moved from Los Angeles, CA to Homewood, IL. Sweet Nobody will also be performing later on Saturday at Dog Days at 2:00 PM on Ridge Road.

Every Saturday, Mayor Rich Hofeld is available to meet with residents at Village Hall from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. He often brings guests to help facilitate productive conversation; you will find a department head from public safety, public works, or community development, along with the Village Manager and Trustees on any given Saturday. You will also find your state legislators at Homewood Village Hall on Saturdays. On Saturday, September 7, Congresswoman Robin Kelly will be available to talk with residents.

IRONS OAKS FOUNDATION CELEBRATION

The Irons Oaks Foundation is seeking new members and needs you! If you love nature and love that we have this natural gem in your community, join us for a MEMBERS-ONLY evening of fun, crafts, games, hiking, campfires, and climbing.
The event will be held at the Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center at 20000 Western Road (corner of Western and Vollmer) on Friday, August 23 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM.
To learn more about the Foundation or to become a member, visit our table at the Homewood farmers market on Saturday, August 3 and Saturday, August 17 or the Flossmoor farmers market on Saturday, August 9. The Homewood Fire Department is looking for volunteers to donate blood for the Fire Department's Blood Drive on Saturday, August 24 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Participants must be 17 years of age or older to donate; however, 16 years olds may donate with a signed parent consent form. Consent forms can be printed from the LifeSource website. Save a life, give blood.

H-F AREA LWV HOST MEET YOUR LEGISLATORS

The Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters (H-F LWV) will sponsor its first program of the year, "Meet Your State Legislators," at a Pot Luck Supper on Monday, September 9, at 6:00 PM at the Marie Irwin Center, Ridge Road and Highland Avenue in Homewood.
State Senators Toi Hutchinson, Napoleon Harris and Michael Hastings and State Representatives Will Davis, Anthony DeLuca and Al Riley have been invited to attend. These legislators have been asked to briefly discuss issues facing the State of Illinois citizenry. People in attendance will have the opportunity to ask the legislators questions.
This opening event for the 2013-14 year offers an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters. The H-F Area League, a non-partisan political organization, will celebrate its 85th birthday next year. The League continues to encourage informed and active participation in government.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share and bring a friend or neighbor. This event is open to the public.
