Today, CBS Sunday Morning is in Homewood filming the extraordinary murals of Richard Haas. The segment focuses on Richard Haas' career and his most recent commissions, specifically Homewood. Stay tune for the date the segment will air on CBS Sunday Morning.

For over 30 years Homewood has hosted a farmers market with the finest vendors selling fresh food, drinks, vegetables, flowers, and more! Homewood's market is located at Village Hall parking lot, 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

Face Painting Returns!

Members of the Homewood Flossmoor Symphonic and Viking Jazz Bands will be at the Farmers Market to paint faces for a small donation towards their spring trip to China. The group will be performing in Beijing and Shanghai; a special highlight will be a tour of the ancient city "wall" in China with a possible evening performance concert.

The Village of Homewood has partnered with ATEN, Assistive Technology Exchange Network, for the electronic recycling program at Homewood's Farmers Market. Drop off your old electronic items at the Village Hall parking lot, and then shop the Farmers' Market.

The events are free and created to provide a fun evening out for the family and an opportunity to meet neighbors from the H-F community. South SuburbanFamily Shelter is hosting its 1st Annual Karaoke Night on Thursday, August 8, 2013. The fun starts at 6:00 PM at Lassen's Sports Bar and proceeds from the event will benefit South Suburban Family Shelter's school prevention program which provides education to all age students about Family Violence, Healthy Relationships, Teen Dating Violence, and    other services provided in the community by South Suburban Family Shelter.

All victim services are provided free of charge and all programs are available in English and Spanish.

Tickets are now on sale for the Karaoke Night benefit for $25 in advance, or $30 at the door. Go to: www.ssfs1.org to purchase tickets, or call South Suburban Family Shelter at 708-794-2140, ext. 306. Ticket price includes buffet dinner and soft drinks. SOUTH SUBURBAN FAMILY SHELTER TRAINING

 

Registration is now open for the 40-Hour Domestic Violence training offered by South Suburban Family Shelter. Space is limited so early registration is encouraged. The training is held throughout the month of August, 2013. The training encompasses a wide range of topics including:

  • Dynamics of domestic violence
  • Abuser intervention programs
  • Empowerment counseling

Upon completion of the training, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of domestic violence.

South Suburban Family Shelter is an approved training site for Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals, Inc.

Police departments, school districts, and other social service agencies are encouraged to attend. CEU's are offered.

DISASTER ASSISTANCE DEADLINE IS NEAR

 

The Homewood Fire Department and FEMA want to remind residents that the deadline for filing claims associated with the April 18th storm has been extended to July 24.

Residents can contact FEMA by registering online at www.disasterassistance.gov , or by smartphone at m.feam.gov .   You can also call 800-621-3362 or for those who are hearing or speech impaired call TYY 800-462-7585.
