FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL | |
The Homewood Fire department wants to remind residents that most fireworks are illegal in the State of Illinois. Not only are they illegal, but they are also dangerous. Every year, in the United States, more than 3,000 children go to emergency rooms as a result of fireworks.
The only legal fireworks in the State of Illinois are those which are considered "novelties," and include snakes, sparklers and party-poppers.
Sparklers are the most dangerous legal firework available in the state. A sparkler burns at temperatures of up to 2000 degrees, which is hot enough to melt some metals. Sparklers account for one-third of firework injuries to children 5 and under. |
