Vinyasa and the Spine
Since beginning Vinyasa Fusion at True You, we have a whole new set of muscles we are working with. As with everything there is a right way and a wrong way. The idea of flowing or doing a Vinyasa is to travel the spine while you create movement to each vertebra.
When you start your Vinyasa practice, you are working to gain the strength to flow with grace and it is not easy. The tendency is to land upward facing dog in the same spot each time and usually that spot is the lower back, which is not all-together ideal. The idea is to move through the entire spine. To lift up and press your chest forward to the degree that you feel an opening to the chest and a compression to the mid-back. If you do not have the arm strength to do this, start by doing this on your knees or you can do a cobra.
Building strength is time-honored. Feel free to take your time as you are gaining all the benefits no matter what level you are at. Less can be more as it actually takes very little movement to the spine to create an amazing result in the way of increasing prana, mobility, mood, and energy levels.
See you in the Hot Room, Helena Monica
