May 2013

Greetings!

In tough economic times you often hear people say we need to do more with less. Today's business leaders are constantly looking for ways to eliminate waste and streamline efforts, without sacrificing excellent service and high quality products. To many this can be a daunting task. All too often organizations seek an easy way out. They look to implement the latest and greatest technology that is guaranteed to make their lives easier. However, once that new technology is in place, we often find that it has done the opposite and made things more difficult.

Instead of looking for the next big thing, continuous process improvement seeks to make incremental changes to achieve the same goal. Please read on to learn more about a new certificate program focused on the continuous improvement process and goals.
THE IMPORTANCE OF A CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
(CPI) PROGRAM

In the great golfing instructional guide, Harvey Penick's Little Red Book: Lessons and Teachings from a Lifetime in Golf, Harvey warns about "taking a big swig of medicine", whereas a little sip is all you need.

What Harvey is saying is, don't bite off more than you can chew.  Ever heard that one before? That's a saying that we've all heard time and time again. However, despite the warning, this is something that happens in business all the time.

I'm sure you can recall a time your organization implemented a considerable change. They all start the same; grumbling in the office, months of closed door meetings, pricey feasibility studies, then the big announcement, "We are going to do things differently from now on."  Not only does that process use an outside influence to manifest change, i.e. consultants that don't always understand your business; that process is difficult, sometimes costly, stressful and all too often, these massive changes produce little results. Whether it's a new computer system, marketing strategy or a complete organizational overhaul, we can't seem to help ourselves from taking huge bites at change rather than small incremental ones. We need to learn to take little sips rather than big gulps. <CONTINUE READING>

CPR/AED AWARENESS WEEK

June 1-7, 2013

Official Jennifer Coolidge AHA Hands-Only CPR PSA
Official Jennifer Coolidge AHA Hands-Only CPR PSA

In 2008, Congress designated the first week of June for observation of National CPR / AED Awareness Week, with the goal of encouraging all states, cities and towns to establish organized programs which provide CPR and AED training to the public.

Having employees trained in CPR & First Aid, can make the difference in securing a positive outcome should a medical emergency occur. In addition to impacting the health and morale of your employees, CPR training can also positively impact your corporate bottom line. Having employees trained for a possible medical emergency can lower your insurance risks and premiums. CPR training can also satisfy the general program element of a first aid program, as indicated by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

As an Authorized Training Center for the American Heart Association, our programs feature a two year certification in multiple training options (online, classroom, on-site) at a lower out of pocket cost than programs that certify your employees for only one year. Programs include:

  • Heartsaver AED/CPR
  • Heartsaver AED/CPR & First Aid
  • Heartsaver Adult First Aid
  • Bloodborne Pathogens

On-site programs are available for ten or more employees.  To learn more, please call 610-861-4194.
