Mass Casualty Drill
On Saturday, December 8, 2012, the Emergency Medical Technician and Emergency Medical Responder students participated in a mock mass casualty incident drill at the Fowler Center in Bethlehem. The training involved a simulated bus crash and was the culmination of their nearly six month long, 160 hour certification program.
Students participated as two-person ambulance crews and were controlled through a simulated 911 dispatcher. One student was designated as the incident commander. There was a total of 20 simulated patients who had theatrical makeup applied and acted the part of bus passengers with real injures.
Screams, yells, people moaning for help all played a part in this unique training experience by allowing the students to practice a difficult scenario in a controlled environment free of the real hazards presented with this type of incident. Over 40 students and six instructors participated in this event. To view a video of the event, please visit our EMS Facebook page.
