Happy Holidays!
Pulling carrots at the McDevitt Middle School garden

2014 was an exciting year and we can't wait to see what 2015 brings! Here are some special memories we'd like to share: The look of surprise on the face of a child pulling a carrot out of the soil for the first time. The pride of a low-income housing resident tending a community garden. The satisfaction of a teen preparing a homemade, healthy pizza. The enjoyment of moms and their kids learning to cook together. The employees from a local business volunteering their time to tend to the school garden. The spirited discussion at our first Healthy Food Access Forum. These are just some of the many experiences we helped to create this year in Waltham. Thank you for your support, and best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season!

Giving to Healthy Waltham
As you plan your year-end giving, we hope you will consider a gift to Healthy Waltham. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. Your gift is so important to us being able to continue our work.

Here are a few things you may not know about us:
  • We serve Waltham ONLY. Your donation goes back into the Waltham community, your neighbors, friends and colleagues.
  • We are a very small organization, and every dollar donated makes a huge difference to us.
  • We often work with some of Waltham's most vulnerable and low-income citizens, although anyone can benefit from learning about healthy lifestyles!
  • We help people to help themselves. We believe education is empowering, and people can learn to lead healthier lives with encouragement and information.
We hope you will consider making a gift! Here's how. Thank you!

Give through Amazon Smile - It's Free!
Amazon will donate a portion of your purchase to Healthy Waltham when you shop at Amazon.com! All you have to do is log in through Amazon Smile. You shop the same way as on the "regular" Amazon website and it doesn't cost anything extra, so it's a really easy way to give. Just be sure to log in through the Healthy Waltham Amazon Smile page so we get credit for your purchase. Thank you for doing a little more for Healthy Waltham!

NEW - Healthy Waltham Hats!
We have a limited supply of Healthy Waltham hats available for a $40 donation! They are a soft khaki color with the Healthy Waltham logo on the front and an adjustable band. They make great gifts! Please send us a note at info@healthy-waltham.org and we will reserve your hat for you and mail it out when your donation is received. We would be happy to mail it to your gift recipient with a card for the holidays! The $40 includes a $25 tax-deductible donation to Healthy Waltham.
Our First Healthy Food Forum
In October, we held a Healthy Food Access Forum at the Waltham Public Library. About 50 people came out to hear our guest speaker Brian Donahue of Brandeis University, and our panelists Claire Kozower from Waltham Fields Community Farm, Duck Caldwell from Boston Area Gleaners, and Ali Kaufman from Jewish Family & Children's Service. The Forum covered a range of topics related to improving healthy food access, both at the New England level and the Waltham level.

You can read more about it in our article in the Waltham News Tribune here. To learn how you can get involved in improving Food Access in Waltham, send us an email at info@healthy-waltham.org.
Attendees of Healthy Waltham's Healthy Food Access Forum linger at the end of the presentation. Let's keep the conversation going!
Vegetables for the Waltham Family School
It's become an annual tradition - Healthy Waltham distributes free vegetables donated by the Waltham Fields Community Farm to students of the Waltham Family School at their Thanksgiving celebration. The families enjoy receiving the beautiful, locally grown vegetables, and Healthy Waltham provides the instruction for storing and preparing the vegetables. The vegetable distribution is part of Health Waltham's healthy eating unit at the school.
