Summer is in Full Swing

We hope everyone is having a great summer! Healthy Waltham is busy with many activities, such as gardening programs, cooking classes, and a special Photovoice project, to name a few. We are also looking ahead and planning for the fall and the new school year. Thank you to Constant Contact and the Waltham Partnership for Youth for sponsoring this newsletter through the Cares for Kids Program! We appreciate your support!

Healthy Waltham at Farmers Market July 26
Come visit Healthy Waltham at the Waltham Farmers Market on July 26. We will be there from 9:30 AM-2:00 PM doing a demo of a spicy Moroccan Chard Salad created by our chefs Reva and Yuki. Stop by and say hello and try some Swiss chard, a local favorite and in season now. The Waltham Farmers Market takes place every Saturday at the Government Center Parking Lot at the corner of School & Lexington Streets through November 8. Can't make it? You can check out our recipe on our website here! We'll also be back at the Market on Sept. 6.
Double SNAP Benefits

Did you know that SNAP benefits can be matched up to $10 when you shop at the Waltham Farmers' Market? Help us spread the word! Now recipients of SNAP benefits can get an extra $10 worth of fresh produce free each week when they shop at the Market. Check out our flyer for the details.

Welcome Photovoice Team
We're excited to be coordinating a photovoice project this summer. Waltham teens are meeting weekly under the direction of Manny Zahonet, our youth facilitator, taking photos and reflecting on the theme of 'safety'. Photovoice can be a powerful tool for diverse groups to share their thoughts through the universal language of images. The group is creating a display for a Youth Summit meeting next year hosted by the Waltham Partnership for Youth. We will continue to update you on this project and the great work the teens are doing. The project is made possible by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council. More more information can be found here.

Healthy Waltham Chill Zone Program
Healthy Waltham's Chill Zone healthy cooking program is back this summer! For six Friday afternoons, we are making healthy snacks with teens at the Waltham Recreation Program's teen drop-in center known as the "Chill Zone." Some of the creations we are making include pea guacamole, veggie and fruit smoothies, and chickpea sandwiches. We love working with kids and introducing them to new flavors and healthy snacks. Some of our recipes are on our website now and more will be added soon.
Looking Ahead
There are so many community events coming up in the fall. Be sure to mark your calendar for the following:
