200 Were Assisted at 4th Annual Project Homeless Connect
Held on January 28, Project Homeless Connect and the annual Point-In-Time Homeless Count offered a warm, safe environment from the frigid winter weather while assisting more than 200 people experiencing homelessness. Participants were surveyed and received direct services and information--steps to overcoming barriers that often stand in the way of housing and other necessities. Participants were also treated to a hot meal and walked away with a variety of donated items to help them through the winter months. While thirteen more people were served this year than last, a preliminary review of data shows that demographics, characteristics, and reasons for homelessness in our community are similar to past Project Homeless Connect events. A special thank you to the 59 volunteers, 34 service providers, and 22 health care organizations that participated this year. We live in a compassionate and supportive community! Some highlights from the event: - St. Vincent de Paul assisted 165 participants with housing, food, and clothing vouchers
- 60 participants signed up for their Permanent Fund Dividend
- Front Street Clinic provided 120 medical and dental consultations
A full report from 2013 Project Homeless Connect will be available online at JEDC.org. |
