MOTHER'S DAY, GUEST ARTISTS, AND NEW ARRIVALS FROM OUR SPRING BUYING TRIP! SpringBuying

We wish you a Happy Mother's Day and encourage you to visit the
Shop to choose a gift for the moms in your life. It's a wonderful time to recognize the gift of life, Mother Earth and all mothers everywhere.
A special, handmade creation is a sure way to bring a smile and show your appreciation.

NEW ART IN THE SHOPNewArt

What better reason to visit us than to find the perfect Mother's Day gift?! We have many new arrivals in the Shop, including katsina dolls carved by Hopi artists Henry Naha, Tino Youvella, Alexander Youvella, and Coolidge Roy. We've also recently received a great selection of walrus tusk ivory and whalebone carvings by Yupik artists, folk art by a variety of Navajo artists, and stunning sterling silver bead necklaces by Navajo artist Larry Joe. And, as always, we have a wonderful selection of jewelry - earrings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants and pins - from a range of artists in all price ranges!  Be sure to give us a visit on your next trip into Washington, D.C., or shop our online store

We've also just returned from our spring buying trip to the southwest and the IACA market, and are very excited about our new selections. Packages are arriving daily and we're busy oohing and aahing as we open them and make room to display all of our new purchases. New fetish carvings, pottery, sculpture, jewelry and weavings are sure to impress and delight you! The talent and creativity of artists today is amazing --how fortunate we are that their work can enrich our lives! You will see NEW mediums too, including amazing gourd art by Lisa Chavez Thomas (Isleta), who transforms gourds into intricately carved sculptural figures; new copper sculptures by Mark Fischer (Oneida); avant garde jewelry by Veronica Poblano (Zuni) and so much more! It will be like your very own Indian Market trove right here in Washington, D.C.

We are working hard to get new items on the online store, so be sure to check out our New Additions page often; but, as always, be sure to visit the Shop for our full selection! If you would like us to email you photos of anything, please let us know.

While you're doing your spring cleaning, it's a great idea to care for your polar bear fur items, e.g., masks and items adorned with untreated fur. Since the fur is not commercially treated or prepared, it can attract bugs that will eat away near the fur/skin lines, particularly in warmer climate areas. For regular upkeep, place items with polar bear fur into a Ziplock bag and place in a freezer for a few days. Do this once a year and your items will stay critter-free!

This is the first in a series of presentations celebrating twenty years of ITAP's work overseas.
