Stefano Rijssel, Seattle Sounders and the strange case of Surinamese soccer: The small South American nation of Suriname has played a major role in the Netherlands national team's status as a perennial world power, but in the modern era, its players have struggled to build professional careers overseas. Now a young Surinamese talent hopes to change that as he seeks to catch on with the Seattle Sounders of MLS.

Marcus Hahnemann: 'This will probably be my last year,' but 'I wanted more' after 2013: After a brief resurgence that included four starts toward the end of the 2013 season, Marcus Hahnemann had the same question on his mind as most fans. The veteran Seattle Sounders goalkeeper took his dog for a run through Coal Creek Park in Bellevue in an attempt to clear his mind. That three-mile run answered the question: the 41-year-old would return for the 2014 season.

Broken, but not defeated: Spencer Richey nears comeback from double leg fracture: Spencer Richey was set to compete for the title of best goalkeeper in college soccer during his senior year. Now he finds himself battling back from a broken leg, and Soccerwire.com's Liviu Bird takes a closer look at Richey's rehab and comeback.

UEFA considering video for 2016 Euros, but still prefers AARs: UEFA boss Michel Platini is taking every opportunity to promote the use of additional assistant referees (AARs) to help with contentious calls. Platini is reluctantly considering reversing the decision to not use technology for the 2016 European Championship finals because it is being used for the 2014 World Cup. But he still insists, unlike FIFA, that his idea of two extra pairs of human eyes is preferable.
