Greetings! I suppose my feeling of regal satisfaction while behind the wheel of our comfortably weathered 1955 300B convertible last weekend exemplified why we endure so much bother with our oldtimers. I imagined myself a titan of some silicon-free industry or a screen star of the '50s as I wafted down the road. That is, until the thermostat housing burst providing a solid stream of coolant directly onto the distributor cap thereby extinguishing all spark in a most efficient manner.
There was a bright side to this mis-adventure, however. I had plenty of time to accept compliments on the 158 white-grey convertible sedan while awaiting the flatbed. The fellow in the Triumph TR4 who stopped to offer assistance seemed rather familiar with my circumstance. I'm almost sure I heard him mutter "been there, done that" as he puttered off. Haven't we all...
Our dramatic 300 is back on the road after receiving a new housing from the MB Classic Center and I will be plying that same strip of road again this weekend, undaunted.
