Television and Our Children
The American Academy of Pediatrics states that elementary and middle school-aged children should not spend more than an 1-2 hours in front of the television per day. Children should spend their time engaging in other activities, such as playing outside, reading, hobbies, and freely using their imaginations. Consider TV programs that promote empathy, literacy, and perseverance; find these here.

STUDENT NEWS
Audubon Society and Grade 2!
This month, during Audubon New York For the Birds, students experienced classroom lessons about birds and their habitats, journal writing, and even an outdoor walk to go bird watching. What a wonderful way to take an active interest in your own community!
Social Studies for 200!
In Social Studies class, students are given a chance to participate in various activities that reinforce the content covered in class. One activity seems to be creating quite the buzz! The classic game Jeopardy has made its way from television sets across the nation to right here in our classrooms. As a way to study for upcoming tests, students review information using a game show format that not only prepares them for the exam, but also allows them to have a fun in the process. Activities such as these motivate students and leave them wanting to learn more.
Music Program Expands!
In addition to regular music classes, guitar club, dance classes, and choir, we were able to open a new music program. This month, we started a violin program for students from K-2nd grade, taught by Wieslawa Zarkowski, a concert violin player. The first lesson took place on October 6th.

St. Andrew's Day is a major Polish seasonal celebration held at the end of November. Just like Mardi Gras celebrations signal the beginning of Lent (a time of fasting and abstinence leading up to Easter), for Poles, St. Andrew's (Andrzejki) Feast Day is the last day of 'celebrating' before the Christian cycle of Advent begins (the period of time before Christmas day). Enjoy a table with your friends or fellow class parents while supporting SSKCA! Family Mass - All are welcome!
9am Every Sunday. We welcome all families to Mass and a visit to the parish cafe on the first floor of the gym building for some cake, coffee, and conversation with fellow parents. St. Stanislaus Parish (Est. 1896) 607 Humboldt Street, Brooklyn, NY 11222.
