Preparing for the Back-to-School Transition
In a few weeks school will be back in session! A great way to ease children back into the routine is by properly preparing ahead of time with these tips:
Get the children to bed on time by setting a solid routine a week before the first day of school.
Encourage literacy at home by reading to your children frequently and making regular library visits.
Prepare a study area by creating a special homework area at home free of distractions.
Here are additional tips and resources for parents that will make the transition for the upcoming school year smooth one.
Welcome our new Assistant Principal!
We are excited to introduce Enid Rodriguez who has joined the Academy as our Assistant Principal and Spanish language instructor. Ms. Rodriguez has over 16 years of teaching experience in Catholic, private and public schools. Ms. Rodriguez will teach Spanish to our PreK3 through 8th grade students and will also manage the SSKCA Afterschool Program. "The Academy is staying ahead of the academic curve by offering Spanish language instruction starting in PreK3 and by giving parents the option to extend their child's learning of the language in the Afterschool Program as well," said Board of Director President, Maria Kura.

SSKCA Young Einstein Science Club
 A new Science Club will be offered to our 4th and 5th grade students. Students will meet weekly in the Science Lab and have an opportunity to explore materials, view information, and conduct experiments in the areas of Life, Physical, and Earth Science. Students will record their findings in individual journals and lead discussion about their conclusions. New children's microscopes will help pique the students' interest in learning about life around them. There will also be opportunities to take their interest in science outside the lab and into an environment such as a museum, or discovery/learning center. Welcome New Families!
For all of the new members of the St. Stan's community, we hope that you'll join us on either Sun. Sept 7th and Sun. Sept 14th at 11am at Msgr. McGolrick Park at the Driggs St. entrance to meet currently enrolled families from grades PreK3-1st Grade. It'll provide a great opportunity for your child to to meet other children, and you'll be able to talk to other parents and learn more about the unique environment here at St. Stan's as we start off the year. Roundtable Discussion: High School Admission Process
Oct 7, 2014 7-9pm SSKCA Auditorium - Open to All Interested Parents
Please join area parents in this open discussion to help prepare parents for the NYC high school admissions and financial aid process. Our panelists include: Richard Karsten, President, Archbishop Molloy High School, Johanna Rodriguez, Director of Admissions Poly Prep Country Day School, and Joyce Szuflita, a public school consultant.
