The Catholic School Advantage

children-globe.jpg

Many parents choose Catholic school education for their children because of its high academic standards, safety and additional focus on character and values. According to the University of Notre Dame's Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE), "Students in Catholic and other private schools demonstrate higher academic achievement than students from similar backgrounds in public schools." STUDENT NEWS

Kindergarten

Our class has been learning through hands-on activities both independently and in groups. We have been learning how to count, and add/subtract with the Smart Board and by working with manipulatives. This is done by connecting and subtracting cubes.  Our reading and writing skills are developing by blending sounds into words that we then compile into short sentences.  Our reading comprehension has improved dramatically throughout the year!

Mo' Math Museum

The 6th grade class took a field trip to The National Museum of Mathematics to have fun while learning. Our first task was to decode the tour guide's name by using Caesar Shift as a way to learn about hacking and cryptology.  The museum has many exciting activities, such as the square - wheeled tricycles, and a giant calculator that could multiply all the numbers. There was an electronic floor that provided many different activities such as a maze of only make left turns. Many students enjoyed the race track that they had to build by using operating levers as well.

Dance Club

Since September, the Dance Club holds practices once a week during recess for girls from Grades 5-8 and everyone is invited to participate!  Their hip-hop dance was displayed during the March Talent show and they will also be performing a new dance at the upcoming Family Fun Day in June.  The group really enjoys participating in this club and it is a fun way to be creative and active.
